MODULE 1 -
ACT 01 - MATERIAL STORIES
Class Date: Sept 11, 2025
Class Theme: Material Research & Critique
Team: Eula Rose
Major Competencies, Skills, and Knowledge Learned: sketching, research, graphic design, making revisions based on feedback
Description: In this activity, I researched Johnsonite rubber tread. I learned information about the material's color, size, texture, purpose, and properties. After this, I also made a graphite sketch of rubber tread to understand and capture its fine details. Additionally, I discovered where and how the rubber was manufactured and distributed and where rubber comes from itself and captured all of this information in a concise graphic. After this, we had critiques and I made adjustments to my graphic to make it more clearly organized for ease of understanding.

Description: In this activity, I researched a new material: Croton stained wood cabinet and the communites it impacted. I learned what the material was, its color, and what it was used for. I then looked into where the wood was sourced and what local and global communities were impacted by its production in China. I then discovered where the wood was manufacted into ints final product and what community was involved. Then, I analyzed what material could become at its end of life and its sustainability. I conveyed all of this information into the graphic above.
MODULE 1 REFLECTION
One skill that I developed throughout this module was the skill of conscientious design. Throughout the module, I researched multiple materials in depth and practiced creating graphics that conveyed specific information in a clear and concise way so readers would be able to easily understand everything I discovered. The image I chose was a photo of my wall in my room, as it is an example of another way I have learned how to demonstrate information through careful design. I organize images, posters, and other decorations in my room in an attempt to express who I am, where I've been, what I believe in, and how I want to be perceived. In order to do this, just like throughout this module, I pay close attention to principles of design such as hierarchy, emphasis, repetition, and unity to create a visual experience that engages the viewer and clearly delivers the information I want to.
MODULE 2 -
ACT 03 - ACTIVE LISTENING
Class Date: October 2, 2025
Class Theme: Active Listening
Team: Medley
Team Members: Eula Rose, Jesualys Casanova, Josselyn Paute, Austin Been
Major Competencies, Skills, and Knowledge Learned: teamwork, collaboration, leadership, time management
Description: For this act, we were asked to collaborate as a team to design our name and logo and create a team contract. I was not able to collaborate much with my team, so I made a separate infographic. First, I updated the infographic with our team's name, motto, logo, font, and color scheme. I improved it further by adding more graphics to make it less text-heavy. I represented our team skills with icons and included state/country maps to help readers visual our global experiences. I also used icons to show how our focus at medley is to combine creativity and function. Additionally, I used colorful shapes that connect to our logo to highlight our team members’ names. Finally, I organized the most essential text in a clear, concise, and visually appealing manner to engage readers without overwhelming them.

ACT 04 - EXPLORING YOUR COMMUNITY
Class Date: October 9, 2025
Class Theme: Exploring Community
Team: Medley
Team Members: Eula Rose, Jesualys Casanova, Josselyn Paute, Austin Been
Major Competencies, Skills, and Knowledge Learned: communcation, interviewing. inquiry, analysis, exploration
Description: For this act, we were supposed to research a used building materials store. I began by exploring a local store called Bauer Bros Salvage in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I spent several hours exploring the many floors of the over 80,000 square feet building and interviewed the owner and a customer. I then made an infographic to show some of the most interesting items and materials and convey the information I learned. I specified our object – a coffee table – and included icons to help readers visualize. I put images of similar materials together and labeled them. Additionally, I made my own annotations/drawings to express how I imagined these objects could come together to create a coffee table. At the bottom, I included text that showed my most significant interviews takeaways regarding desired features, time available, and budget. Throughout, I used orange and blue colors to match our team logo.
ACT 05 - STAKEHOLDER MAPPING
Class Date: October 16, 2025
Class Theme: Mapping Stakeholders
Team: Medley
Team Members: Eula Rose, Jesualys Casanova, Josselyn Paute, Austin Been
Major Competencies, Skills, and Knowledge Learned: presentation delivery, diagramming, research, taking feedback
Description: This act we were asked to investigate one used building materials store and their stakeholders – we chose BBR. I also way not able to work together much with my team, so I made my own infographic to one of our slides based on feedback. First, I reorganized the slide to make room for bigger and more readable text. I also made the text darker as the white text was difficult to read. Additionally, I organized the “says”, ”thinks”, “does”, and “feels” sections into columns and the stakeholders’ words into boxes within rows for ease of understanding and clear text hierarchy. Then, I added colorful symbols to help express their meanings. I also added icons to represent each stakeholder to help the slide be less text-heavy overall. Finally, I updated the color scheme and font of the slide to fit our final decided brand theme and added our logo to tie it all together.

MODULE 2 REFLECTION
One of the most significant skills I learned throughout this module was exploration and investigation. I chose this image from my time looking through Bauer Bros Salvage for Act 2. I chose it because it represents how, throughout this module, I further developed my ability to investigate. While I was there, I did a deep dive into the variety of materials are at such stores, what the store owner and customers’ perfectives are. Further, I considered how we could design a coffee table sustainably and meet users’ needs. In Module 2, we also researched stakeholders and did a deep dive into BBR and how everyone is involved within communities. Overall, this module taught me how to explore communities and investigate the roles of people and businesses within.
MODULE 3 -
ACT 06 - CREATING OUR ZINE
Class Date: October 23 & 30, 2025
Class Theme: Creation
Team: Medley
Team Members: Eula Rose, Jesualys Casanova, Josselyn Paute, Austin Been
Major Competencies, Skills, and Knowledge Learned: drawing, coordination, design, diagraming, graphic design, teamwork, leadership, collaboration, organization
Description: For this act, after being introduced to the concept of a zine, we created the first iteration of our zine which explored how to make a coffee table out of repurposed items. First, I curated our team's color palette based off our logo and helped my team decide how each slide should be formatted to achieve a clear and coherent appearance. Then, I drafted ideas about how I would create my recycled object, which I decided I wanted to make primarily from reused radiators. Once I had a final idea, I made drawings of each assembly step and material, an assembly diagram, and a final drawing. Next class, I gave my peers some feedback on our design thus far and created the cover page. Finally, I created a compelling infographic for why people should choose to create a DIY object, listing advantages as well drawing a cozy space featuring our coffee tables. Last minute, before uploading our first zine design, I did go and make slight changes to the logistics page too to give it a bit more visual interest.

ACT 07 - PEER + COMMUNITY REVIEW
Class Date: November 6, 2025
Class Theme: Review & Feedback
Team: Medley
Team Members: Eula Rose, Jesualys Casanova, Josselyn Paute, Austin Been
Major Competencies, Skills, and Knowledge Learned: inquiry, analysis, interviewing, active listening, presentation, giving & receiving feedback
Description: I began this act by interviewing members of my community about the effectiveness of our zine while taking notes. Then, I compiled the main changes and improvements people suggested into a group document so everyone could add the feedback they revived as well. Once this was done, we decided the most significant positives and changes that should be made based on what we heard the most, also taking into account peer feedback received in the prior class. Then, I created a to-do list for each team member listing the individual changes they each should made to their pages of the zine. I completed the work I assigned to myself, including making formatting changes to everyone's slides to improve organization and adding green boxes to clarify which objects were reused. Finally, we presented our new and improved zine in class.

ACT 08 - SYNTHESIZE
Class Date: November 13, 2025
Class Theme: Sythesis
Team: Medley
Team Members: Eula Rose, Jesualys Casanova, Josselyn Paute, Austin Been
Major Competencies, Skills, and Knowledge Learned: graphic design, drawing, teamwork, leadership, collaboration, organization
Description: For this final act, first I was asked to participate in a cross-team review and present our improved zine with my team members and analyze the effectiveness of other zines I saw. Afterwards, I helped my team define what final improvements should be considered based on feedback we received from our "consultants". I organized the most essential goals for each member into a list so we could efficiently make the final changes necessary to synthesize a clear and effective zine as a team. Then, alongside my team, I determined how our script should be composed to fit our time limit, allowing each member to write their own sections with word limits. I also lead my team by proposing a deadline to have the script done so we would have ample time to make final zine changes afterwards. Before our presentation date, I made the necessary changes to my own pages, confirmed my team members did their part, and updated all formatting so it would be uniform. Lastly, I inverted the overall background color scheme of the zine from tan to off-white -- which had been suggested during feedback -- in order to improve clarity overall and reduce waste during printing.
MODULE 3 REFLECTION
The main skill I developed throughout this unit was the ability to organize in general: turning static into meaning. In the creation of my own recycled object, I made my design based on the surplus on radiators I discovered while exploring Bauer Bros Salvage alongside other materials I found there. I took the chaos jumble of salvaged items saw there and found a way they could to synthesized into a unique and functional piece. Additionally, throughout this module I developed my ability to lead my team by providing organization. I helped guide us by ensuring goals were clear to all of us, creating helpful lists and charts, and communicating openly. This allowed my team to bring our variety of perspectives and concepts together into a concise and effective zine. I chose this image of an art project I am currently developing to demonstrate this as I am working on bringing a variety of metal and plastic scrap pieces I found from a surplus store -- which independently don't communicate anything -- together to create a bold city-skyline for the background of my artwork.
