CURRICULAR DRAMA

9 DRAMA

Drama expresses human experience through a focus on role, action, and tension, played out in time and space. In drama education, students learn to structure these elements and to use dramatic conventions, techniques, and technologies to create imagined worlds. Through purposeful play, both individual and collaborative, they discover how to link imagination, thoughts, and feelings. Students will tell creative stories using dramatic conventions and techniques.

10 DRAMA

This course covers a range of Drama skills for performance. Students practise vocal and movement expression, script interpretation and appreciation of the qualities of an effective performance. Students learn mime skills, improvisation and play-making. They perform scripted theatre and learn about theatrical presentation and finding solutions needed to make effective theatre work.

DRAMA 101

Drama explores human experience through theatre works and other drama-creating activities. Working individually and collaboratively, students learn to organise their ideas into dramatic performance capturing imagination, thoughts, and feelings through the use of body language and vocal expression. As students perform and respond to different forms of drama and theatre, they learn deeper appreciation of their rich cultural heritage and values. Courses lead to NCEA scholarship, university entrance and tertiary-level theatre studies and drama schools. Students learn the features of Commedia, and how to perform this classic improvised comedic theatre working in a group and costuming their characters. Students act in scripted theatre roles and devise their own pieces based on a theme. An exam about a theatre work they have seen completes the year.
