What does G.R.A.P.E.S. stand for?
Every culture, past and present has G.R.A.P.E.S.
In this project, you will learn about one of the countries that represents your ancestors. You will learn about your unique heritage by reading about the customs and traditions that are an important part of your family’s story. If you don't know your heritage, that's ok. Choose a country of your choice that you are interested in learning more about.
You will explore the geography, religion, achievements, political system, economy and social structure of the country you have chosen. The information that you gather will be presented in a poster.
Before you can create your poster, you must complete the brainstorming sheet. See left for example.
Below are websites for you to use to get your answers. You may not use Google (Kiddle is the equivalent). All answers can be found on these sites.
World Atlas- Click on the continent your country resides on, followed by your country to get a physical map.
Fact Monster- Each Country Profile provides information on: Geography, Maps, Flag, History, Current ruler, Area Population, Capital, Largest cities, Languages, Ethnicity/race, Religion, Literacy rate, Economy, and Government.
Kiddle - Type your country name into the search box and check out the information about your country.
Students of the World - This non-profit website includes a lot of statistics and facts about a very large selection of countries. Once you find your country, click the Detailed Information tab to get more info.
Kids World Travel Guide- A small selection of countries are featured on this website, which includes information about each country organized by topic.
The poster is divided into two sections:
The left-side of the poster will include the title of the country and at least 4 large pictures of your choice. The background should be colored.
The right-side of the poster will include six sections divided into equal boxes: Geography, Religion, Achievements, Politics, Economy, and Social Structure
Each section will have a flap with a title of one of the characteristics of G.R.A.P.E.S. and a colorful illustration(s). Illustrations may include maps, land features, people, places, things, etc. that reflect the information written.
Under each flap, you will include information about the topic (use the required information from your Brainstorming sheet)
The goal is to provide a “snapshot view” of the country
