Pick the Emperor Handout (given in class)
The Roman emperor was the ruler of the Roman Empire. There were roughly 70 emperors that reigned over Rome. The list of Roman emperors began with Caesar Augustus who ruled in 27 BCE and ended with Romulus Augustus whose reign ended in 476 CE. So who were some of these emperors?Â
Not all of the Romans emperors were good. In fact, some were considered a bit mad. Meet emperors Nero, Caligula, Elagabalus, and Commodus.
You will select 5 emperors from the list below. Learn more about each of those emperors and evaluate their rule using the Roman Emperors Report Card handout.
Not all Roman emperors were created equal. Some were considered GOOD (Augustus Caesar, Trajan, Hadrian, Marcus Aurelius, Justinian), BAD (Diocletian, Caracalla) and just plain MAD (Caligula, Nero, Commodus).
Work with your group to pick the emperor that would best fit each scenario/statement on the Pick the Emperor handout. Use the information button below to help you make your choice.
