The Nile River Simulation Journal/Reflection Handout (given in class)
The Nile River was Egypt’s life coach — it told them when to farm, where to live, and basically kept them alive. Every year it flooded (on schedule!), leaving behind rich, muddy soil perfect for growing crops — like nature’s free fertilizer delivery.
It flowed south to north (just to be weird), and Egyptians were like, “No Nile, no life,” which was 100% true.
In short: The Nile River was considered Egypts lifeline, without it, Ancient Egypt would’ve just been a giant sandbox.
You will be participating in a game-based simulation to learn about the Nile River and how it affected life in ancient Egypt. You will start the game with 25 points and you will gain or lose points based upon your decisions in each round. Your goal is to earn the most points during the simulation.
This game does not work if you work ahead. There are new twists during each round, so you must follow your teacher’s directions closely.
While this is a game and it will get competitive, we still must be respectful and follow all of our normal class procedures.
Reflect on your experience playing the simulation by answering the following questions on The Nile River Simulation Journal/Reflection handout.
Which jobs in ancient Egypt depended on the Nile River?
How did the Nile River affect life in ancient Egypt?
Could the ancient Egyptians have survived without the Nile River? Why or why not?
Day 2- Finish reflection questions
