Julia: It has been amazing so far to stay with my Finnish host. I already knew her from the project last year, so it was really fun to see her again. The family has been so welcoming, and even got me a gift for my birthday!
One thing that definitely shocked me was how expensive the groceries are here in Finland. Compared to the Netherlands, it costs a lot of money. However, everything else is really great. The school is so quiet compared to my own school, it's very peaceful and I like it. I have also really enjoyed working with the media team! Last year I spent a lot of time working on the music team and less on the media, but this year I really wanted to do more with the socials.
Sven: The experience so far has been great. I was new in the project, so you never know where you end up. I ended up in a nice house with a lovely family. There has been a lot of culture shocks and environmental shocks (SNOW!). We laughed at a lot of culture shocks during the DMPC but it was all positive ofcourse.Â
Luckly the house I stay at, is fairly close to school so I am able to bike there, even the cycling is different. I've been really enjoying everything so far!
Ava: We left my house at 6:30 in the morning to go to the airport. I sat next to my best friend on both the flights (yay) and Geert (teacher). When we got to Finland, there was so much snow! I could not wait to meet my host. She made me a whole guide to the UMK, which we watched that evening with all of her best friends. One even stayed the night! Also, I love the blueberry juice here :)
