On saturday the 8th of February the Dutch students and teachers started their trip to Finland.
At 8:30 all the Dutchies have gathered at Schiphol getting ready to give their parents some rest for 2 weeks. After some quick group photos we went to the check-in where we dropped off our baggage. Then as a group we walked through Schiphol to the douane, where a lot of people had to take off their shoes, because everybody was already wearing their snowboots, but you're not allowed to go through the douane with shoes that come over your heels.
We then had about half an hour to lunch at Schiphol, In those 30 minutes burger King was very populair, since the starbucks was yet to be build. After everybody had some rest it was finally time for the big moment: we got to board on the plane.
Not even 10 minutes on the plane and we already started to sing happy birthday, because it was Julia’s birthday🥳. The flight was 2,5 hours, the view was great, the mood in the plane was awesome with lots of laughter and chatting. We just had a great time.
We landed in Helsinki where everbody was surprised how silent the people were on the airport compared to Schiphol. In Helsinki Airport we had about 45 minutes for the next flight, in these 45 minutes Burger king was the main focus again. The second flight flew by as it was way shorter than the first flight. The difference was very noticable, since it just felt like when we were on the top height we started lowering instantly.
When we landed Pauline quickly counted if everybody got out of the plane and when everybody had their luggage back, we received a warm welcome from all of our finnish hosts. Unfortunately for the short remainder of the day, everybody was really tired and kind of jetlagged. For most people meeting the Fins was kind off an awkard moment, but because of the late bedtimes in Finland everybody luckily still had time to eat and meet with their finnish exchange student. Also almost everybody had eaten Mexican food and watched the Finnish Eurovision.
