Mackay Elementary School
Building updates would include:
replaced/repaired roofing
repointing of masonry to protect the community’s investment in that building
more efficient interior and exterior lighting
replaced ceilings
Instructional space improvements would include:
small addition toward Virginia Street to provide greater flexibility for one-on-one and small-group instruction; currently students in the Basic Skills, Resource Room, OT and PT programs share rooms and many are old closets or locker rooms
added space could potentially bring specialized programming for grades three through five from Maugham to Mackay, making Mackay a hub for students who require language learning disability (LLD) services
Heating and ventilation updates would include:
upgraded unit ventilators in classrooms
replaced corridor radiator/convector
Restrooms & accessibility measures would include:
renovated restrooms for better use of space, improved functionality and improved accessibility
Safety & security layers proposed are:
two-stage security vestibule to create a physical barrier to the main building
bollards strategically placed to block errant vehicles
door signage for better identification by visitors and emergency responders
window security film for improved shatter resistance
replaced exterior doors with improved safety features
new emergency generator to maintain basic building functions during power outages
School grounds improvements would include:
repaving courtyard to replace broken asphalt
Maugham Elementary School
Building updates would include:
replaced/repaired roofing
repointing of masonry to protect the community’s investment in that building
replaced vinyl asbestos tile flooring (with necessary precautions)
Instructional space improvements would include:
small addition (on top of the 2002 addition) to provide greater flexibility for one-on-one and small-group instruction; currently those take place in renovated closets, in the hallway or on the stage
added space would allow creation of a preschool hub for all those programs (except Tiger Tots) and provide classrooms for the Integrated Pre-Kindergarten program for students with and without special needs
Heating and ventilation updates would include:
upgraded unit ventilators in classrooms
replaced boiler for improved energy efficiency
Restrooms & accessibility measures would include:
new elevator as part of the proposed second-story addition (the current elevator does not extend to the second floor)
Safety & security layers proposed are:
two-stage security vestibule to create a physical barrier to the main building
bollards strategically placed to block errant vehicles
door signage for better identification by visitors and emergency responders
window security film for improved shatter resistance
replaced exterior doors with improved safety features
new emergency generator to maintain basic building functions during power outages

Smith Elementary School
Building updates would include:
replaced/repaired roofing
replaced windows for function and energy efficiency
more efficient interior and exterior lighting
replaced ceilings
Instructional space improvements would include:
small addition to the front of the school to provide greater flexibility for one-on-one and small-group instruction, including three rooms for occupational, physical and speech therapy services
addition would also include a music classroom with storage space (currently instruments are stored in a small locker room behind the stage)
repositioned and rewired technology components to transition from patchwork placement to comprehensively designed system
Heating and ventilation updates would include:
upgraded unit ventilators in classrooms
Restrooms & accessibility measures would include:
renovated restrooms for better use of space, improved functionality and improved accessibility

Stillman Elementary School
Building updates would include:
replaced/repaired roofing
replaced windows for function and energy efficiency
replaced vinyl asbestos tile flooring (with necessary precautions)
replaced ceilings
Instructional space improvements would include:
small addition extending toward the intersection of Windsor and Tenafly roads to provide greater flexibility for one-on-one and small-group instruction, providing more – and more appropriate – space for Basic Skills, Resource Room, English Language Learners instruction and occupational/physical therapies
shift of preschool programs to Maugham would open up two classrooms at Stillman to allow the creation of a music/instrumental room
added outlets in classrooms to provide for plug-in of instructional technology

upgraded unit ventilators in classrooms
Restrooms & accessibility measures would include:
new elevator built within the courtyard area just for this purpose (currently stairs are the only option for second-floor access)
renovated restrooms for better use of space, improved functionality and improved accessibility

Tenafly Middle School
Building updates would include:
replaced windows for proper functioning and energy efficiency
cafeteria expansion to accommodate one entire grade at a time for lunch indoors; current lunch service splits the student body into six sections and crimps academic scheduling
replaced vinyl asbestos tile flooring (with necessary precautions)
replaced hallway lockers for improved functionality
replaced ceilings
Instructional space improvements would include:
renovation of locker rooms used for required Physical Education classes; they are original to the building with outdated restroom plumbing and broken lockers
new gym bleachers to replace the ones that are used sparingly due to poor functionality
updated stage and house lighting in the auditorium to replace older hot lights with cooler, longer-lasting and more energy-efficient LED equipment (other upgrades have already enhanced this space)
Heating, ventilation, and A/C updates would include:
upgraded unit ventilators in classrooms
replaced equipment that supports efficient HVAC, such as electrical panels/wiring, a steam pipe, and switchgear replacement
Restrooms & accessibility measures would include:
renovated restrooms for better use of space, improved functionality and improved accessibility

Tenafly High School
Building updates would include:
replaced/repaired roofing
replaced windows for function and energy efficiency
Instructional space improvements would include:
renovation of locker rooms used for required Physical Education classes. These lockers are from 1972 and are in desperate need of being replaced
replacement of the gym floor that has already been sanded down multiple times and cannot be sanded again
replacement of gym components such as bleachers and wall pads; new curtain divider to get twice the use out of that one space
renovated auditorium with updated stage and house lighting (trading out hot lights for cooler, longer-lasting and more energy-efficient LEDs); audio/visual and sound systems (coordinating the technology that integrates soundboards and microphones); ceilings, wall finishes and acoustic panels; new rear section of seats with accommodations for people who have mobility issues (the front section has already been replaced)
repositioned and rewired technology components (such as removing a modem from a nurse's office)
Heating, ventilation, and A/C updates would include:
upgraded unit ventilators in classrooms
better air circulation equipment for the small gym
improved ventilation through the exhaust of stale air
replaced outdated rooftop HVAC units and chillers to stop the cycle of repairs and operate more efficiently
Restrooms & accessibility measures would include:
replaced 50-year-old elevator cab that needs frequent repairs, improving accessibility
renovated restrooms for better use of space, improved functionality and improved accessibility
new, accessible seating in the auditorium’s rear section
