I am currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Grupo de Plasmas Astrofísicos (GPA) at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST, Lisbon), specializing in plasma physics and high-intensity laser-matter interactions. My career bridges advanced experimentation in high-power laser facilities with numerical and analytical modeling of kinetic plasma dynamics.
I completed my PhD (2018–2021) at the Laboratoire d’Optique Appliquée (France) under the supervision of Prof. S. Corde, focusing on the development of novel radiation diagnostics and modelling the spatiotemporal dynamics of ultra-relativistic beam-plasma instabilities. My work, conducted at top-tier facilities such as the Facility for Advanced ACcelerator Experimental Test FACET-II (SLAC, USA), earned me the 2022 René Pellat Prize from the Société Française de Physique.
Since 2022, when I moved to IST, my research has focused on the development of laser-plasma-based XUV and X-ray sources, with applications in ultrafast imaging. I have led efforts on the automation and optimization of High Harmonic Generation using Bayesian inference and explored high-resolution X-ray imaging techniques. I have also integrated nanophotonic technologies into high-power laser systems, leveraging spatiotemporal couplings to enhance laser performance. I am a Principal Investigator of projects funded by LaserLab-Europe and the Portuguese science foundation FCT.
Lately, I have been awarded a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship (2024–2026), which I am carrying out in the group led by Prof. Frederico Fiuza at IST. In this project I investigate the nonlinear stage of plasma instabilities in overdense targets using large-scale simulations and experiments in large scale facilities, with the ultimate goal of guiding and improving future experimental campaigns in ultrafast X-ray imaging.
