Writing Workshops!
Available for Grades 3-8 for the entire school year!
Writer’s Workshop is a wonderful opportunity to improve and develop writing skills. Over the course of the school year, students will:
Interact with students and teachers in a weekly 45-minute virtual class.
Spend 3-5 weeks learning about each writing genre (narrative, informative, argumentative/opinion, and others), which helps students prepare for the writing portion of State Standardized tests.
Receive individualized feedback and support from a teacher (through one-on-one conferencing and small group activities).
Use MIWrite (writing/editing program), ReadWorks (reading/writing comprehension program), and FanSchool (classroom blog) - all included in the cost of the class.
Share and publish their writing with other students on a safe blog (FanSchool). This is great for motivating writers!
Have peer interaction: students enjoy meeting together, doing group work, and sharing their writing.
Prepare and feel more confident for the writing portion of state tests.
For students to be successful in Writer’s Workshop, we ask that they come prepared with the following:
Computer or laptop for each student (tablets don't work for this class).
Microphone, camera, and Zoom downloaded.
Quiet space to work during class.
Writing assignment(s) that they worked on during the week.
Here is how our class works:
5 minutes: Grammar warm-up activity
15 minutes: Interactive mini-lesson (based on a genre of writing)
25 minutes: Individual conferencing or small group activity in a breakout room with a teacher
Writing Levels:
We offer three main class levels: Emergent (grades 3-4), Beginning (Grades 4-6), and Intermediate (Grades 6-8) or HONORS Intermediate (Grades 7-8). Visit Writing Level Descriptions for more information on each level.
Class fees:
Class fees are deducted from your Tech Trep funds. We offer multiple days and times for all grades 3-8.
