OPEN CALL FOR WORKS FOR

THE SOUND ART AND TRANSMEDIA FESTIVAL "ECOS URBANOS" 2021

The Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (hereafter Tecnológico de Monterrey) all composers, sound artists, audiovisual artists, and in general, creators whose work involves the use of electronic / digital / computer technologies of any nationality to the:

ECOS URBANOS

7th Edition


OBJECTIVE:

To support the creation and diffusion of electroacoustic music, sound art, audiovisual creation and, in general, art with technological means, Tecnológico de Monterrey invites to the selection process of works for the Festival of Sound Art and Transmedia Ecos Urbanos.


This year the Ecos Urbanos Festival will be held from November 16th to 26th,2021 in 7 different states of the Mexican Republic: Mexico City, Nuevo León, Querétaro, Puebla and Jalisco, Coahuila, Zacatecas and Chiapas

RULES:

  1. The selection process is open to artists or groups of any nationality and of any age who submit proposals of their own creation.

  2. There will be four categories of participation:

CATEGORY I: Electroacoustic works from 2 to 8 channels.

CATEGORY II: Audiovisual works with projection on 1 screen and stereo sound or from 2 to 8 channels

CATEGORY III: Live Coding, electronic improvisation, real-time video / audio generation or live performance with technological means. *

CATEGORY IV: Audiovisual installation, sound sculpture, interactive / multimedia / AR / VR work. *


* Categories III and IV will be exclusive for artists residing in any of the festival's host Mexican States


  1. The content must be original and must respect and consider what refers to copyright for the creation of content.


Requirements for all participants:

Participants must::

  1. Send their applications no later than Friday, October 15, 2021. Applications sent after this date will not be taken into account.

Deliverables:

  1. For category I, send in ZIP format:

    1. A folder with audio files for each channel in WAV or AIFF format, indicating the channel in the file name, taking the front speaker as 01 and following the numbering clockwise. Example: 01name.wav, 02name.wav, etc.

  2. For category II, send in ZIP format:

    1. For stereo works, video file in HD and SD formats

    2. For works from 3 to 8 channels, video file (without audio) in HD and SD formats and a folder with audio files for each channel in WAV or AIFF format, indicating the channel in the file name, taking the front speaker as 01 and following the numbering clockwise. Example: 01name.wav, 02name.wav, etc.

  3. For category III, send in ZIP format:

    1. Video files (between 7 and 15 minutes long in MOV format) showing performances by the artist or ensembles, either complete or in collections of fragments.

  4. For category IV, send in ZIP format:

    1. Video files showing the sculpture, installation, or interactive piece in execution.

  5. For ALL categories:

    1. Authorization letter for the use of material signed by the author or authors of the work. Authorization of use of material

    2. Letter of Use of Image and Voice for each artist or member of a collective / ensemble / group. Use of image and voice

    3. Fill in the required data and upload the ZIP file in the following format. Registration Format

  6. Una vez recibido el archivo, un miembro del Comité Organizador confirmará mediante correo electrónico, la Once the file is received, a member of the Organizing Committee will confirm the receipt of the document by email.

Evaluation:

A jury made up of professors from Tecnológico de Monterrey, specialists in sound art and transmedia, will select works for each of the categories. The jury's decision is irrevocable.

Selection:


The list of selected works will be announced as the selection process progresses, no later than Friday October 22, 2021. The artists whose works are selected will be notified about the dates and places where they will be presented at the festival via email and on the Festival's Facebook page.


Organizing committee:

The organizing committee is made up of professors from the Tecnológico de Monterrey from the different participating campuses.

Jury:

  • It will be made up of professors from the institution who are experts in Sound Art and Transmedia.

  • It has the right to disqualify projects that do not comply with the provisions of this call. The jury's decision is irrevocable.

Responsibilities of the participants:

  • By registering, all participants accept the terms and conditions stated in this call.

Unforeseen:

  • Any situation not foreseen in this call will be addressed by the organizing committee, who will make the decisions they consider pertinent to resolve the issue in conflict.

Intellectual property and copyright:

The winners of the call authorize Tecnológico de Monterrey to use, publish, reproduce, transmit, and communicate the material to the public in events, printed and digital publications, and that they can be placed on the Internet pages of Tecnológico de Monterrey, as well as in social media.

By participating in this call, the participant declares and guarantees that his deliverable is an original work that does not include third-party content (such as writing, text, trademarks, dialogues of works, equal or similar to third-party works, text / scripts or references to musicals, videos, television programs or movies, and authorizes Tecnológico de Monterrey to make it available to the public without payment of royalties or any other cost or necessary permission.

Likewise, the participants and Tecnológico de Monterrey agree to keep the information provided confidential and it may only be used for the purposes of this call.
