This week I have decided to interview our FCS teacher, Mrs. Bolin. Mrs. Bolin has provided a lot of help and inspiration to students who have taken her classes. She is helping students learn such valuable life skills that most FCS teachers before her fell short.
The first question I asked Mrs. Bolin was, “Where did you attend college?” to which she responded with, "Technically I got my teaching degree in Minnesota at MSU in Mankato.”
Next, I asked her, “How many years have you been teaching?”
“This will be my 5th year teaching,” was her response.
“What’s the biggest challenge you’ve faced throughout your time teaching?” was the next question, and she replied with, “Having multiple preps. It’s not really a challenge anymore, but having multiple classes was a lot for the first years…The demand for constantly trying to make things more exciting.”
To oppose the last question, I then asked, “What is your favorite thing about being a teacher?” and she responded with, “Being able to teach topics that I really enjoy. I like that I get the more hands-on classes because a lot of them include hobbies I do at home.”
Finally, I asked, “What made you want to be a teacher?” followed with, “Why do you keep teaching?” to which she responded with, “Seeing past teachers impacts on me, along with my mom being a teacher. Also being an FCS teacher, I’m able to make my own curriculum,” followed by, “It’s just become a part of my life now, and I think the other part is that I continue to learn things. I’m learning every single year, even though I’m a teacher. I enjoy the relationships with the students.”
Mrs. Bolin is a great member of our staff who has devoted a lot of her time to helping us as students succeed in not only school, but beyond. She’s the advisor of the FCCLA as well, which really adds to the impact she has on students involved in her classes and the FCCLA.
