In this module, participants will be introduced to Promethean panels and the accompanying ActivInspire software. ActivInspire is a collaborative lesson delivery software for interactive displays that provides a vast suite of tools to create and deliver dynamic lessons.

Note: this course shows Promethean ActivInspire version 12.18. As of 8/25/2020, the version in Software Center for teacher download is version 2.9. There is an open request for the version to be updated in Software Center. Your downloaded ActivInspire software may look different than what's shown in the course, but the general functionality is the same. Read through the Promethean Troubleshooting presentation in order to review the types of boards, setup, and helpful hints to prevent common troubleshooting issues. Use the arrows that look like the image below at the bottom left corner of the slideshow to navigate between slides.

Read FWISD's Promethean Flat Panel: Getting Started QRG to become familiar with the capabilities and functions of the Promethean flat panel system.

Note: While the Flat Panels are often referred to as "digital white boards," it is important to note that they should not be treated as traditional white boards. Please do NOT write on the Promethean Boards with dry erase markers, do not clean them with rubbing alcohol, and do not tape posters or other signs to them.

Accessing & Using the ActivInspire Dashboard

Each time you open ActivInspire, the ActivInspire Dashboard will appear. The dashboard contains quick and easy access to your recently accessed files, prominent features and tools, the online Resource Library, and the tutorial repository. Review the screenshot below for an overview of everything available in the dashboard.

If you have previously closed the Dashboard, you can access it at any time by clicking the blue spaceship in the right of your top menu bar. Review the screenshot below to see where this is located.

Review the 10 different types of ActivInspire activities. Return to your ActivInspire file. Choose an activity. Practice creating & playing your chosen activity.

Return to ActivInspire. Access the desktop annotation tool, and practice using it in an online site of your choice.

Return to ActivInspire. Open the Shared Resources. Explore the resource folders, and experiment with adding resources to your flipchart.

Accessing & Using ActivInspire's Shared Resources

Within the ActivInspire program, you can access ActivInspire's database of Shared Resources. All of the items found in the Shared Resources folder can be added to your flipcharts to enhance your instruction and student learning. To access the Shared Resources section within ActivInspire, simply click the Shared Resources icon in the Page Browser menu.

In the Shared Resources, you have access to find and use a multitude of ready-made backgrounds, templates, activities, sounds, and subject-specific content. When you click on the Shared Resources icon, a set of folders will appear in the large white box below the icon. Simply click the + sign next to any of the listed folders to open the contents within.

As you can see in the screenshot below, the Backgrounds folder has been opened to reveal the contents within. At this point, you can choose any of the folders listed to open that category. In the screenshot below, the Paper backgrounds folder is chosen. All content within the Paper backgrounds folder is shown in the white box below the folders. To apply any of the listed content, simply click on the chosen item and drag it over to your flipchart. To minimize the content under a main category, simply click the - sign next to the folder.

You can follow these same steps to apply any of the content within the Shared Resources. If you need any additional help or information with items in the Shared Resources section, simply go to support.prometheanworld.com. Type "resource pack" in the search bar.

Return to ActivInspire. Access the shape tool, and practice creating, resizing, and coloring different types of shapes.

Complete the tutorial for a quick overview of how to access and use the ClassFlow Marketplace, which provides additional flipchart resources to use with ActivInspire and your Promethean board.

Open a new browser tab and go to www.classflow.com. Sign in with your FWISD Google account. Explore the ClassFlow Marketplace, and experiment with adding and downloading flipcharts.
