It's helpful to build strong fundamentals before integrating apps and features into more complex learning workflows. The foundational skills presented in Step 1 will help you advance from using a single app to integrating multiple apps into activities that support productivity and increase efficiency.
We often take our clocks and timers for granted, but this simple application can help boost productivity throughout the day. Here are a few tips for how the Clock app on your iPad can raise your efficiency and help you manage your time.
Use the alarm feature to set daily reminders to make sure you move onto the next class or activity. This can help avoid losing track of time, keeping you organized and on schedule.
Use the timer feature to allow a specific amount of time to complete a project or task. This can help create urgency and focus when working on a project.
The Calendar app lets you categorize, organize, and manage your schedule. This simple organizational tool can be your ally for productivity. Here are a few tips for using the Calendar app on your iPad to maximize your productivity.
Organize and prioritize project deadlines by scheduling time to plan each week.
Keep track of events by creating separate color-coded Calendars for each area of your life. With color-coded calendars, it is easy to see specific deadlines and events related to school, home, or a particular class. Customize events on your calendar by adding alerts, notes, and attachments to the event. Reminders insure that you don't miss the event. Notes and attachments keep everything you need for a meeting close at hand. To learn more about adding reminders or attachments to your calendar event, click here.
The Reminders app helps you set and track goals, create and categorize to-do lists, and prioritize tasks all in one place. You can use the Reminder app for shopping lists, work projects, classroom tasks, or anything else you want to keep track of in life. You can create subtasks, set flags, add attachments, and choose when and where to receive reminders. Check out these tips to learn more about how the Reminders app can boost your efficiency.
Create a list for each subject or class. You can add goals or to-do items in each category and check them off as you accomplish each goal. Lists can be reviewed as needed, even after all the items have been completed.
Scaffold a large project by breaking it down into smaller parts. You can add reminders for each task by setting a specific date, indicating the priority level.
Add notes to tasks that contain specific details related to each task, like resources or web addresses. You can even add a location, flag a reminder, add attachments, or assign a reminder to someone else who shares the same list. To learn more about how to use Reminders, click here.

When you're organized, it's easier to keep track of materials, use strategies to stay on task, and create systems to help you manage your responsibilities. The activities in Step 2 are designed to show you how to organize your tasks, materials, and work environment.
The Notes app is the perfect tool to capture quick thoughts, create checklists, sketch ideas, and organize learning resources. You can document classroom observations, scan homework assignments, and manage to-do lists. Here are a few tips for how you can use the Notes app to get organized.
Create folders and subfolders to keep your notes organized by topic. To create a new folder, tap the arrow to see your Folders list. Tap New Folder in the lower left corner. Name your folder and click Save.
Pin your most important notes to make them easier to find. To pin a note, swipe right over the note and then release. You can also tap the More button on the note page and tap the Pin button.
Draw a sketch or jot a handwritten note. Within the Notes app, you can select from a variety of markup tools and colors. To learn more about drawing in Notes, click here.
Share and collaborate using Notes. You can send a copy of a note or invite others to collaborate on a note or folder of notes. To learn more, click here.
Digitize handouts. Use Notes to digitize paper documents and images by easily scanning them so you can upload for students. Open Notes, and tap the Camera button. Then tap Scan Documents. Capture the document and save it. To learn more, click here.
Turn your iPad into a portable sound recording device with the Voice Memos app. Record quick audio notes, class lectures, or capture the sounds of people, places, and things around you. You can use Voice Memos to build a collection of recordings that you can integrate into books, presentations, or videos to support a learning experience. You can fine-tune your recordings with editing tools like trim, replace, and resume. Below you will find tips for using Voice Memos to help you get and stay organized.
To make a basic recording, open the Voice Memos app and tap record (the red circle). To adjust your recording level, move the microphone closer or further away from what you are recording. Tap Done to finish recording. To fine-tune your recording, see Edit a recording in Voice Memos.
Share a recording. Select the voice memo you want to share from the list, then tap the Share icon. You can send a recording directly to apps such as iMovie or Notes, add it to an email or message, or save it to Files for use in other apps.
Organize your recordings into folders. Tap Edit above the list of recordings. Select one or more recordings, then tap Move. If you want to create a new folder for the recordings, tap the New Folder button, then type a name for the folder. Tap the folder where you want to store the selected recordings.
Add a Voice Memo recording to projects. In native iPad apps like Pages, Keynote, or Numbers, you can insert recordings directly from your iPad. If using apps from Google or Microsoft, you will need to share the file via email or by uploading it to Google Drive or OneDrive.
With the Safari app, you can browse the web, add webpages to your reading list to read later, and add page icons to the Home Screen for quick access. You can even create PDFs of a web page using Safari. Here are a few tips for using Safari to get organized.
Save web pages to Notes by tapping the Share button in Safari to add the web page to Notes. This makes it easy to collect, organize, and share websites.
View two pages side-by-side using Split View. With Split View, you can look up resources in one window, while taking notes using Google Docs in another. To open Split View, hold the View Open Tabs icon. Then tap Open New Widow. You can also touch and hold the link, then tap Open in New Window. To learn more about using Split View, click here.
Use Safari Reader to hide ads and other distractions. Tap the Format Options (AA) button in the address field, then tap Show Reader View.
Create a PDF of a web page. Annotate and highlight informational text or images on the web. Then share with students or colleagues. From a web page in Safari, tap the Share button. Tap Markup and annotate, then tap Done. Tap the Share button to send it or save it to Files.
Add frequently used web pages to your iPad Home screen. In Safari, go to a web page. Tap the Share button in the top-right corner, then tap Add to Home Screen. You can organize your icons into folders according to content or topic. Click here to learn more.

View and manage files from any iOS device using the Files app. The Files app makes it simple to find your files. In addition to the Files app, you can use cloud storage apps like Google Drive and OneDrive to expand the storage capabilities of your iPad. Plus with cloud storage, it is easy access files and collaborate with others, no matter what device you are using. Read on to learn more about the Files app and using cloud storage on your iPad.
To add a cloud storage service to your iPad, download the app from the App Store. Once you have downloaded the app, open it and follow the onscreen instructions. Next, open Files, tap More Locations, and turn on the cloud storage service. This allows you to access your files from either the Files or specific cloud storage app. Repeat this process for all of the cloud storage services you want to access on your iPad. Suggestions include Google Drive, OneDrive, and/or DropBox.
To access your files, just open the Files app and choose the location of the file you're looking for. To learn more about using the Files app, click here.
Organize files and folders on your iPad. You can create, edit, and tag folders to help organize documents, images, and other files. For step-by-step directions, click here.
Share and collaborate with others. You can share any folder or file stored in iCloud Drive directly from the Files app. In iCloud Drive, tap Select, choose the file or folder that you want to share, and tap Share.
