Watch the video to learn how to set up your account and your first class. Then, read the information underneath for more directions for FWISD teachers.
To learn about setting up your account, watch the video segment below. Then, read the information underneath for directions that are specific to Fort Worth ISD.
Consider setting up your account by signing up with your FWISD email address. By doing so, the email address associated with your account will be your Microsoft email and you will be able to receive email notifications.
There is also an option to sign up using your FWISD Google account. While this is an option, please do not select this as your login. When you choose this option, your FWISD Gmail account is listed as your email address. You are unable to access your @teachers.fwisd.org email at this time, so you will not receive email notifications. You cannot change the email address listed on your account when you login with Google.
Once you've created your first class, you will want to check the class settings. You can find the settings by clicking on the wrench icon in the top right corner of the screen.
Class Settings
In your Class Settings section, you can change your class details and add a co-teacher. To add a co-teacher, click on Manage teachers, type in the teacher's email address and click Invite. Be sure to use the teacher's @fwisd.org address, not his/her @teachers.fwisd.org.
Once the co-teacher accepts the invitation, note that he or she will have the same permissions that you have.
Student Settings
In the student section of your settings menu, you can manage your class, access your class join information and turn on/off some different options. One of the settings listed here allows you to turn on/off whether students can see each other's work. When you have this turned on, when you approve a new post, it will be posted to the class journal for everyone to see. You might consider turning this off, particularly for younger students, unless you plan to have students provide one another with feedback.
Families
Seesaw has a great feature that allows you to connect families to each student. Families can see their students' posts once they have been approved. This is a great way to keep families updated on their children's progress. Click to turn on Enable family access, then select Invite families. You will be prompted to enter an email address or phone number for each child. The family will then receive either an email or text message with a link to their child's Seesaw journal.
Additional Settings
There are additional settings for a class blog, folders and skills, as well. Note that the class blog is a public blog. It can be password protected, but be wary of sharing any student information. Folders allow you to organize your activities. Skills is a premium feature.
Take a few minutes to set up your Seesaw account and your first class.
Use the button below to access the Seesaw website or go to app.seesaw.me to create your account. Once you have created your account, you will be prompted to create your first class. Either use this opportunity to set up the classroom you intend to use with your students, or you can opt to create a practice class.
Watch the video and then read the information below about adding students to your class.
If you are using Seesaw as a virtual learning platform, once you add your list of students, you will want to use Home Learning Codes to have them join. Read the information in the blue section below to learn more about Home Learning Codes.
To begin adding students to your class, you will click on the +Students button.
For younger learners, we recommend that you have students join your class using a QR code. When you are prompted to choose how students will sign in, choose No. Then, choose 1:1 Devices.
If you are using Seesaw as your virtual learning platform, use Home Learning Codes to add students to your class. The Home Learning Codes are developed specifically for remote, or virtual, teaching. Each student receives unique join instructions that includes both an alphabetic code and a QR code that students can use to access their Seesaw class. These codes are valid for a year.
To learn how to access your Home Learning Codes, watch the video and read the directions on the Seesaw Help Center using the button below.
Keep in mind that each student receives his/her own unique set of instructions. You will need to send these out to each family separately. It is recommended that you use Blackboard Parentlink to communicate this information with families.
If you do you have access to your class list, or are not ready to invite your students to your Seesaw class, complete the tutorial to walk through the process of adding students.
If you are ready to add your own students to your Seesaw class, follow the information provided to paste your class list and provide families with the directions to join.
For this step, you have two options. If you are not ready to add your students to your class, you can follow the tutorial. If you are ready to start adding students, feel free to do so now. Refer back to Step 4 for further information.
