Seesaw Plus premium features are open for all pre-k and kindergarten teachers in Fort Worth ISD. These features help teachers record assessments on student work and understand student progress, which helps inform instruction.
Seesaw Plus premium features include:
View Student Progress Towards Key Skills: Teachers using Seesaw for formative assessments can tag student posts with their own set of skills or standards. Optionally, assign a simple 1-6 rating to student work and get a real-time understanding of how students are progressing towards key curriculum objectives.
Multipage: Students can create posts of up to 20 pages and use powerful creative tools (drawing, voice, labels, photos, shapes, etc.) on every page. Teachers can assign Multipage activities, create Multipage activity templates, and create announcements for students and families that include Multipage posts.
Drafts: With Drafts, students can save work in progress and finish it later. Drafts give students the flexibility to create and reflect on work at their own pace! With Send Back Drafts, teachers can leave comments and send back work to students for revision.
Private Folder: Teachers can add student work to a private folder to keep assessments in one spot without sharing everything with families.
Private Notes: Teachers can take private notes (and even collaborate with other teachers and administrators) on student work. Private notes are only visible to other teachers, not students or families.
Scheduled Activities: With Seesaw Plus, you can now schedule activities for dates and times in the future!
To review how to get started using Seesaw, visit their Help Center using the button below.
Watch the video to learn how to create folders, tag posts and activities to folders, and view work by folder. A Folders Cheat Sheet is provided for you as well.
If you want to organize student work by subject area or learning objectives, you can create folders in your class. Using folders to organizing student work by subject matter or learning objective can make it much easier to find the posts later on. Folders are visible to teachers and students, as well as family members if you have invited them to your class.
Watch the video below to learn how to:
Create folders
Tag posts and activities to folders
View and approve work by folder
Keep folders organized
Enable Students to Tag Folders when they Post
If you want your students to be prompted to add work to folders, you need to turn folders ON for your students.
How to turn folders ON for students:
Tap wrench icon.
Scroll down to "Show add to folder step".
Turn this to "Students and teachers".
Press the back arrow to save.
Your students will now be prompted to add work to folders when they add a post.
Read the information regarding how to create private, teacher only folders. A tutorial video is included in this step as well. Then, read how students can respond to an activity in a private teacher only folder.
Seesaw Plus premium features include access to private folders and notes. You can add student work to a private folder to keep assessments in one spot without sharing everything with families.
Creating a private, teacher-only folder is quick and easy!
During add post:
First, make sure you have folders ON for your class. Tap on Your Profile > Manage Class > Show Add to Folder Step and make sure it says either 'Teachers' or 'Teachers and Students'.
When creating a new post, you can add a post to your Private (Teacher Only) Folder from the Folders selection screen. Tap on the small blue lock icon on the bottom right corner of the folders selection screen, then make sure the 'Teacher Private' switch is green. Then hit the green check to finish uploading the post. The post will not be visible, and no notifications will be sent to students or connected families.
From the approval queue:
You can also add student work into your Private (Teacher Only) Folder from the Approval Queue. This might be useful for student assessments that you don’t want shared with students or families just yet. Tap on the folder icon below the post, then tap on the Private (Teacher Only) folder to add it to the folder. When you approve the post, it will not be visible to students or families.
To remove a post from the private teacher folder:
Tap on the folder icon or the Edit Folder option in the [...] menu and remove the checkmark next to the Private (Teacher Only) Folder. The post will now be visible to students and connected families.
How do students respond to an activity that the teacher has tagged with the private teacher folder?
When students respond to an activity that the teacher has tagged with the private teacher folder, all of their submitted and approved responses are added into the private folder. Students cannot see anything in the private teacher folder; private posts are visible only to teachers. To students, it might look like their work was “deleted," but it’s just not visible to them. The activity will be moved to the Done section for the student once they have submitted a response.
If students save a response that’s tagged with the private teacher folder as a draft or the teacher sends back a response that’s tagged with the private folder, students will see this response in their To Do and In Progress sections with the Finish Response button and will be able to edit their response. After they submit their response with the green check, they will NOT see their work anymore since their work, at that point, will be submitted and visible to the teacher only.
Practice creating a new folder.
With Seesaw Plus premium features, you can create folder and private teacher folders to help you and your students stay organized. Practice creating folders for you and your students. Create at least one folder for your students and one private teacher only folder.
Consider these folder ideas:
Best of Folder- Collection of student's best work that can be used for parent teacher conferences or an end of year showcase. Students can add and reflect on work each month.
Content Area Folder-Use a coordinating emoji to make it easier for students to locate. Don't forget to tag the folder when adding an assignment.
Print Folder- Make it easy to print student projects by printing all items in the folder with one click. When the desired items are printed, they remove the Print Folder label from the item and the Print Folder is empty until it is needed again.
Conferences Folder- Similar to the Best of Folder, the conferences folder can be used to show student strengths, growth, and areas for improvement.
Watch the video segment to learn how to use private teacher notes in Seesaw.
Teachers can take private notes (and even collaborate with other teachers and administrators) on student work. Private notes are only visible to other teachers, not students or families.
Watch the video to learn how to support students by providing ongoing, timely feedback. Then, read to learn how to use drafts and the Send Back feature in Seesaw.
With Drafts, students can save work in progress and finish it later. Drafts give students the flexibility to create and reflect on work at their own pace! With Send Back Drafts, teachers can leave comments and send back work to students for revision.
Note: The Drafts and Send Back features are only available if the class login method is 1:1 or Email/Google sign-on.
To save work as a Draft, have students choose the Draft option instead of choosing the green check:
Drafts appear in the student’s journal feed with a yellow banner, indicating that the post is a Draft.
Only the student who created the Draft and their teacher are able to view the Draft. If you want to edit the item tap Show Draft > [...] > Edit Item.
Note: If a student accidentally closes their Seesaw app or browser window, Seesaw will save a copy of their work on their device or computer. When they open Seesaw again on the same device or computer, Seesaw will recover the work, and the student can continue working where they left off. For their work to be uploaded to their portfolio and visible to teachers and family members, students should still tap "Draft" or the green check.
Create powerful feedback loops with your students using the Send Back feature. Turn any piece of student work into a draft, so students can review and improve their work prior to posting to their journal. In the approval queue, tap 'Send Back' to send student work back to the student.
Teachers can also use the comment tool to leave feedback on work in progress. With a comment, students can review specific feedback from their teacher. If you do not want the comment on the final post, you will need to delete the comment.
How do the Drafts and Send Back features work with activities tagged to the private teacher folder?
If students save a response that is tagged to the private teacher folder as a Draft or the teacher Sends Back a response that is tagged with the private folder, students will see this response in their To Do and In Progress sections with the Finish Response button and will be able to edit their response. After they submit their response with the green check, they will NOT see their work anymore, since it will have already been submitted and tagged to the private teacher folder.
Watch the video to learn how to create create skills, tag posts and activities to skills, and track student progress with skills view. A Skills Cheat Sheet is provided for you as well. Once you have learned how to create skills, keep reading to learn how to customize your skills rating scale.
Teachers using Seesaw for formative assessments can tag student posts with their own set of skills or standards. In addition, teachers can assign a simple 1-6 rating to student work and get a real-time understanding of how students are progressing towards key curriculum objectives.
Watch the video below to learn how to:
Create skills
Tags posts and activities to skills
Give ratings
Track student progress with skills view
Teachers can create and tag skills that align with a 3-6 star scale.
To change your Skills rating scale:
Log in to your teacher account on the web app at app.seesaw.me.
Tap the wrench icon in the upper right corner.
Scroll down and tap 'Skills Rating Scale'.
Select the rating scale that works best for your class!
If you change your Skills rating scale, all previously tagged skills will update to the new scale.
Seesaw uses a decimal rating for these rate conversions, and rounds to the nearest decimal when the rating scale is changed. For example, a score of 4/5 is .8 in decimals. If you change your scale to 6 stars, the rating will become 5/6. If you change your scale to 3 stars, the rating will become 2/3. The decimal conversion will remain the same in each case.
Practice creating skills. Update your skill rating scale and color scheme to fit your needs.
With Seesaw Plus premium features, you can add skills and score student work based on a 3-6 star rating system that is color-coded. This makes it easy for you to see what standards have been taught and how your students are performing on those skills. Take this time to add new skills to your Seesaw class. Determine the skill rating scale and color scheme that works for you and set your preferences. Remember, if you change your mind later, Seesaw automatically updates all your previously tagged skills to the new rating scale.
Learn how to schedule activities for a later date and time.
With Seesaw Plus premium features, you can now schedule activities for dates and times in the future! To schedule an activity, follow the steps below.
Tap on an activity in the My Library section of the Activities library.
Tap Assign.
Tap Schedule.
Select the date and time you would like to share the activity with your students, and then tap the green check.
Tap the green check to confirm the date and time.
Tap Assign On to schedule your activity for the selected date and time.
Students and teachers can create multipage posts and activities. Learn more about this process by reading the information provided.
Using Multipage, students create posts of up to 10 pages, and can use powerful creative tools (drawing, voice, labels, photos, shapes, etc.) on every page. Teachers can assign Multipage activities, create Multipage activity templates, and create announcements for students and families that include Multipage posts. Now, with Annotate docs, students can add 1-20 pages directly from their computer or Google drive and annotate up to 20 pages!
Albums you’ve previously created are now Multipage posts. This gives you and your students options to take the learning further and add Seesaw’s creative tools on every page.
To create a multipage post, students need to choose either drawing, photo, or upload when posting to their student journal. In the lower right corner of the page, click the Add Page icon to add another page.
With Multipage and Annotate docs, students can use the creative tools to enhance 1-20 pages of a Google Doc, Slide, Sheet or PDF:
Access multipage activities and take some time to explore.
