Welcome to the Thorncliffe Eco Team

Welcome to the Thorncliffe Park Eco Team website.  We are a group of Grade 4 and 5 students who want to make the world greener.

You can see what we are doing by looking at the projects below.

If you are interested in doing activities at home with families and friends, click on the link at the top of the screen called Activities for Home.

If you are interested in seeing what we have already done, click on the link at the top of the page called Past Events.

Recycle Electronics

Between March 28 -  April 14, the Thorncliffe Park Eco Club is collecting your used batteries.  Bring them to the box outside room 155 (Ms. Ahmad's room) so that they can be recycled.

Earth Day

Earth Day is on Saturday April 22.  We will be celebrating Earth Day by having an Earth Week, from Monday April 24 until Friday April 28.  Activities during this week include:

Monday April 24: Earth Day activities (in class)

Tuesday April 25 and Wednesday April 26: Community Clean Up

Thursday April 27 and Friday April 28: Take Me Outside Day

Be sure to listen to morning announcements for our eco tip of the day!

Community Clean Up

On Tuesday April 25 and Wednesday April 26, classes can sign up to do a community clean up around the school and help our earth stay clean.   Classes will be given gloves and garbage bags in advance.

Take Me Outside Day

On Thursday April 27 and Friday April 28, classes can sign up to have a lesson outside.   There will be four choices for classes: Obstacle courses (structures and materials), Hula Hoop / Nature Scavenger Hunt (oral communication), Sit Spots and Journalling (literacy) or Secret Path (math/coding).  All lessons and material will be provided in advance.

The sign up sheet will be emailed to teachers on Thursday April 20

GOOS Paper

April 6 was national GOOS Paper Day!  Thorncliffe Park Eco Leaders spent National GOOS Paper Day teaching others about reponsible paper use & the importance of reusing, reducing and recycling paper.  They're working hard to continue making sure that GOOS paper bins are in all classrooms.

Bondar Challenge

From the TDSB Eco Schools page: The Bondar Challenge is an opportunity for students to learn about the art of photography and to discover new perspectives on nature through a camera lens. The challenge is designed for students ages 11-18, though younger students are also welcome to participate.

Dr. Roberta Bondar is unique, not just for being the world’s first neurologist in space, the first Canadian woman in space, or for her pioneering space medicine research. Academically one of the most distinguished astronauts to have flown in space, Dr. Bondar is also the only astronaut to use fine art photography to explore and reveal Earth’s natural environment from the surface.

In May, Eco Club leaders will be heading outside to take photos of their natural environment.  Stay tuned for their pictures!
