I have known that teaching was my vocation since I was 8 years old.  It was my high school mathematics teacher that encouraged me to do something selfish before giving all of myself to teaching. So, upon completing my Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Queen's University, I moved to California, in order to record an album.  After accomplishing this goal, I returned home to Toronto where I obtained my Lower Elementary Montessori Teaching Certifications and also my Bachelor of Education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto.

I have been fortunate enough to have taught the primary grades for the Toronto District School Board for the past 17 years. I have also had the opportunity to teach workshops at OISE for three years on how to foster leadership in the primary classroom.  This year in addition to teaching I am also continuing my Master of Education in Developmental Psychology at UofT with a focus on neuroscience and interventions. As a side project this year I am working on a  new album. As the mother of three I understand how important it is for students, parents and educators to work together to enrich the educational experience of each child.  I feel so fortunate to be returning to Mountview Alternative School again to be working with such a wonderful community.

Asslamu Alaikum everyone! (Hello)

My name is Fozia Farooq. In 2008, I received my Early Childhood Education diploma from George Brown college and have an accumulated experience of 9 years working with TDSB. Working together with the staff at TDSB, I have built a healthy and productive learning platform for our youth. It is my goal to create a sense of belonging for staff and students alike and I treasure every child I have the opportunity to teach, enjoying the journey of learning alongside them.

I have the passion as well as the ability to nurture and guide our young generation, in partnership with their parents, as they embark in a new chapter in their lives.
