Principal’s Message

Welcome to the 2020~2021 school year at John Polanyi CI. I am so thrilled to be joining the JPCI community, and I am so proud to call myself a Jaguar!

This year bring new and unprecedented challenges, but it also presents us with different opportunities and unique ways to build community and meaningful connections.

John Polanyi is known for its breadth of programming, and wide range of activities that support students in their preparation for future experiences, whether it be continued education or future workplaces. The community at John Polanyi has set a standard not only for strong academic achievement, but as a caring and supportive environment that works to help students grow as learners and citizens, and to achieve their very best. Our teachers and support staff work with our students to make sure that learning is engaging, exciting, and relevant, and not only considered the current world we live in, but the future of our society. Course offerings are regularly reviewed to ensure that engaging and vibrant programs are available for all our students regardless of their future pathway--apprenticeship, college, university or the work place.

At John Polanyi we understand that diversity is strength, and as global citizens we welcome students from communities all across the globe. To support our English Language Learners, we offer excellent programming for students to develop their English proficiency in both dedicated “ESL” courses, and core subject courses.

With a student population of approximately 800, we pride ourselves on offering courses that honour the learning preferences of all our students. Outside of the classroom, we work with students to develop experiential learning and leadership opportunities. It is our mission to ensure that all of our students have opportunities to make a contribution to JPCI, whether through clubs or school activities. While this year may not present as many opportunities for in-person gatherings, we encourage students to participate in virtual clubs and activities, and to reach out to teachers if they wish to start a new club or activity that does not yet exist.

We at John Polanyi CI believe that high school is so much more than the courses you take. It is the activities in which you participate, the friendships that you make, and the mentorship from kind caring adults who are here to help you set and achieve your goals.

I wish you great success for the school year.
