The David Wilson Memorial Garden at John Polanyi CI is one of the largest urban farms in the City of Toronto. Through the Grow-to-Learn (GTL) Schoolyard Garden Program, schools and communities learn about food and gardening. The program creates safe, experiential and positive learning environments, as well as acts as a catalyst in raising awareness of important issues related to healthy eating and nutrition, food security, environmental sustainability and hunger in our schools and local communities.

Our school garden measures almost 1.5 acres and harvested approximately 17,000 pounds of organic produce last year. Our students have access to numerous learning opportunities in our garden through various courses offered in Arts, Sciences, Business, Mathematics, Health, Food & Nutrition. Students can also get involved and gain valuable experience in our school garden through co-operative education, volunteer and summer employment opportunities.

Students from our music courses perform in our school garden.
