VISUAL ARTS COURSES OFFERED:
In this course, students rotate through drama, music, dance and visual arts to learn the basics of each of the arts. During the visual arts portion, students move through the creative process and apply the elements of art to create an original artwork following the theme of the course.
These courses allow students to explore a range of physical mediums while moving through the creative process and applying the elements and principles of art and design to original artworks. Mediums explored include: drawing, printmaking, collage, pastels, mixed media, acrylic paint and more. Students will also learn to analyze and interpret artwork within a personal, societal and historical context.
These courses focus on art and design using a digital process and tools. Students will build technical and theoretical skills by moving through the creative process to create a range of digital artworks for commercial and personal purposes. Students will use industry standard software such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
This course focuses on digital photography as an artistic medium. Students will use the creative process to create photo based artworks that reflect a wide range of subjects and will evaluate works using the critical analysis process. Students will also explore photography within a personal, contemporary, historical, and cultural context and build technical skills related to using DSLR cameras, editing software and light.
These courses focus on ceramics and clay as an artistic medium. Students will learn a variety of hand building and decorative methods through studio projects. In addition to hands-on skills, students will also learn about the elements and principles of art/design, the creative process, as well as the historical and cultural significance of clay and ceramics. Students will work in a studio environment with the goal of producing three dimensional works that are both functional and reflective of their artistic style.
This course allows students to have a direct impact on their yearbook. Students in this class learn to apply visual design principles to create effective spreads and learn software based skills to collaboratively create the yearbook for print.
