Welcome to JPCI SCIENCE! JPCI Science students benefit from engaging and hands on activities performed in their classes. Our Science teachers aim for doing at least two labs or activities per each unit taught. As well, our students have opportunities to participate in exciting excursions to places such as St. Michael’s Hospital, Sick Kids Hospital, the Science Center, the Toronto Zoo, various colleges and universities, Evergreen Brickworks, and the ROM. In addition, staff invite guest speakers or science programs to run workshops at school with our students.
At JPCI, kids can learn in different environments, making local and global connections. The use of technology such as virtual labs, simulations, Google Classroom or Bright Space, Vernier probes, and Kahoot is common practice in this department. We offer opportunities of enrichment through our Science Club, Biotechnology and Forensics courses (PCR and gel electrophoresis equipment), SMR accelerated program, and AP courses. The Science club develops student leadership by having our senior Science Coordinators run meetings and demonstrations.
Our team works collaboratively to provide a fun, safe and caring environment where students feel comfortable to approach staff and learn with their peers. Teachers aim to get every student working at their potential. A wise teacher said numerous times, “A hardworking student is a happy student”.
