Terry Wright

Terry Wright, radio announcer for more than twenty years and still an active volunteer is honored as a “Friend of Sports”.    Wright, a graduate of Pana High School began his long association as an advocate for Taylorville Tornadoes athletics in 1973 when he began doing color commentary with Keith Arnold on the local radio station covering local sporting events.The following year, he began doing play by play of area schools for the station, while still providing color for Tornadoes games with new sports announce Rick Doan. In 1975, Wright was offered the position of sports director which allowed him the opportunity to do morning sports six days a week, and play-by-play, pre-game and post-game shows for Taylorville football and boys and girls basketball.     Wright later developed a Saturday morning Sports Special Program that reviewed weekend sports events throughout the area that included live interviews with area players and coaches. He also broadcasts this program live from the Illinois High School Basketball State Tournament in Champaign, where he conducted interviews with high profile coaches like Dolph Stanley and Virgil Fletcher.    Over the course of his more that twenty years behind the microphone, Terry Wright broadcast more than 200 Tornadoes football games and 500 Taylorville basketball games. He was selected to the Illinois Basketball coaches Hall of Fame in the media category in 1994.
