Pat Perry

Pat Perry graduated from Taylorville High School in 1977. He lettered 3 years on the Tornadoes basketball team and was selected team MVP his senior season scoring 309 points during the 15 -10 season.     He played baseball his sophomore season, but the sport was cut from the athletic program in 1976 due to district budget problems. Pat continued playing baseball on the local American Legion team and after graduation from high school played for Cluade Kracik at Lincoln Land Community College.

A left handed pitcher, major league scouts followed Perry’s Lincoln Land career and the Houston Astros offered him a contract in 1978. After playing seven seasons in the minor leagues, Perry was called up to the St Louis Cardinals in the summer of 1985. During the 1986 season, Pat was second on the Cardinal’s staff in appearances with 46 and sported a 3.80 ERA. In August of 1987, during his third season with the Cardinals, Perry was traded to the Cincinnati Reds. Pat proved to be a valuable long man for both the Cardinals and the Reds in 1987 as he was 4-2 with the Cardinals before being traded and in his first seven appearances for the Reds, had a O.OO ERA and did not allow any inherited runners to score. He completed the combined season with 57 appearances, 2 save and a 5 -2 record. The following year he was traded to the Chicago Cubs, pitching there until he had a brief stint with the Angels and ending his major league career with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1990.
