Bob Parker

Bob Parker played football, basketball and ran track at Taylorville High School from 1962-63 through 1964-65. He lettered three years in all three sports. As a football player, Parker played tackle and linebacker. He was a dominating force on both offense and defense. He was selected to the Mid-State AU-Conference Team and was named to more than one All-State team.

As a basketball player, Parker contributed to the varsity team as a sophomore, coming off the bench and providing rebounding strength for the 16-7 Tornadoes. He then started at a junior and a senior, helping the Tornadoes to a 19-8 record. in 1965, the most wins posted by a Taylorville team in 12. years.

As a member of the Taylorville Track Team, Parker set the school high jump record at 6'3" his senior year, a record that stood for over twenty years.

Following graduation from high school, Parker was offered and accepted a scholarship to attend the University of Missouri and play football. He played for the Tigers for two years, earning a letter his sophomore year. After his sophomore year, Parker transferred to Memphis State University in the Missouri Valley Conference. As a two year starter for Memphis State, he was once selected Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week, earn a place on the All- Missouri Valley Conference Team, the All South Team, Associated Press AU-American honorable mention, United Press International and Football. News All-American Teams, and was selected to play in the East-West Shrine Game and the Coaches All-American Game.

In 1970, Parker was a fifth round selection in the National Football League Draft, being selected by the Detroit Lions, He was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles later that year and played in 1970 and 71 for the Eagles. He ended his professional career alter playing the 1972 season with the Miami Dolphins.

Parker has just recently been selected to the University of Memphis All-Time Football Team (1912-1995_ by the Athlou Sports College Football Magazine,
