Sephanie (Spresser) King

Stephanie King Spresser was an outstanding two sport athlete at Taylorville High School. A 1990 graduate, Stephanie King made an immediate impact on both the volleyball team and the track team her first year as a Tornado. Playing in the Apollo Conference, and only a sophomore, King helped lead the Tornadoes both offensively and defensively and was selected to the All-Conference first team that year. She also earned Special Mention at the Edinburg Tournament. She followed that season by repeating as an All- Apollo Conference first team member both in 1988 an 1989. Along the way, she also earned 1st Team All- Tournament selection both years at the Annual Edinburg Volleyball tournament. While she was receiving personal honors for her play, the 1989 team also followed her lead and won the first regional championship for Taylorville in eleven years. King - Spresser was also noticed by her coaches and teammates as she was named team MVP in both her junior and senior years. To culminate her senior year, WTIM Radio selected her as their Player of the Year. Prior to attending college, King participate in the Prairie State Games where her team won the state crown in their division.    In the spring, King excelled on the track team. As a sophomore, she was chosen team MVP, and earned recognition on the All Apollo Conference First Team. Her spring performance allowed her to compete in the Area Best Track Meet where she finished third in the Long Jump and 5th as a member of the Tornadoes 800 meter relay team. She repeated those places in the sectional meet. During her junior year she repeated as an All Apollo Conference performer winning the conference 100 meter dash and placing 2nd in the long jump. She was selected Co- MVP and competed in the Honor Roll Classic running the 400 meter dash and the 800 meter relay. As a senior, King maintained her high performance standards and closed out her career with recognition on the Area Best Honor Roll and being named to her third All- Conference selection. She also repeated as the team MVP.

Following graduation, King was given a scholarship to play volleyball at Lincoln Land Community College. As a collegian, she became an Outside Hitter, and in 1991 she was selected to the Lewis and Clark Tournament All- Tournament First Team. Following that year, she participated in the Illinois Prairie State Games, where her team won First Place in their division.
