From Nomination form: “All-State Honorable Mention in football. Captain of the football team during senior year. Named Most Valuable Lineman following senior year. In 1975, he broke the school shotput record previously set by Tom Parker. This record remained unbeaten for 19 years. Following graduation and visitation trips to several colleges interested in his football skills, he made the decision not to play college football due to a neck injury received In high school. Althought Taylorville High School did not have a weight lifting team, Greg was instrumental in helping and encouraging fellow athletes to use weight training to improve their performance. His bench press of 365 lbs, military press of 255 lbs and squat of 445 lbs are marks that are still rare among high school athletes. A point that Greg is particularly proud of is the success of his younger brothers who were all regarded as outstanding football players. They received numerous awards including All Area, All Conference and All State.
