Bill Hopper

Bill Hopper is being inducted into the Hall of Fame as a Friend of Sports. A 1958 graduate of THS, Hopper has been involved in supporting Taylorville athletics in many ways. He has served as public address announcer for basketball games and was color announcer on radio broadcasts of football and basketball games for over twenty years. As a businessman, he was instrumental in guiding the efforts of First Trust and Savings Bank and the Hopper Foundation in providing funds for many projects to support athletics. A major benefactor to such projects as the high school all weather track and the tennis courts are only samples of the leadership and support he provided for athletics at Taylorville High School. He and his wife Marilyn also served as host family for Jens Kujawa, who received all-state honors at THS and played for the University of Illinois and the German Olympic Team.
