Mike Homa

Mike Homa, inaugurated the boys basketball program at St Mary's School in Taylorville in 1945 for boys in the seventh and eighth grades. He continued as coach of the Midgets for the next twenty year. After stepping down in 1965, he retired, only to return in 1969 for three more years. During his tenure as coach, Homa amassed 230 wins against 155 losses and took three teams to the state tournament.    Before the parochial school built their own gymnasium in 1960. Homa practiced at a publicschool gym, but only had one practice a week. After the new gym was constructed, the pro am grew to d r practices and the three state tournament appearances.    Homa has been credited with developing the skills of many future Taylorville Tornadoes, including current Tornadoes Varsity Coach Mark Stephenson. In 1985, Mike Home was Inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame as a "Friend of Basketball."    Mike Homa and His wife, Maxine still live in Taylorville and are the parents of two daughters, Maxine of Springfield and Janet Dorchinecz of Taylorville and a son, Michael of Florida.
