Matthew Hixenbaugh

Matthew Hixenbaugh graduated from Taylorville High School in 1993 and was a three year starter and letter winner on the Tornadoes Basketball Team. During his senior year he helped lead the 1992-93 Tornadoes to a 17- 9 record and their 1st Apollo Conference Championship in nine years.     HIxenbaugh earned team MVP honors during both his junior and senior seasons and was team co-captain his senior year. During that time he scored 998 points placing him 8th on the All-time list of scorers. Known for his long range shooting ability, Hixenbaugh established most of the school’s three point records during his career. As a junior in the regional tournament, he set the school single game three point scoring record with 8 threes’ against Granite City. He also hit 7 three pointer on two other occasions, against Charleston and Mt Zion during Apollo Conference play. He set the single season record for successful three pointers during the 1992-93 season with 63 and established the school record for career three pointers at 145.    During his career at Taylorville High School, Hixenbaugh was selected to the Decatur Thanksgiving Tournament All Tournament Team both in 1991 and 1992; the Charleston Holiday Tournament All- Tournament Team in 1992; and was an Apollo Conference All Conference First Team Selection in 1993. He was selected to both the Springfield Journal and the Decatur Herald and Review all area teams in 1993. Following his success on the court at THS, he was invited to play in the Lincoln Heart of Illinois All-Star Game and the Decatur Herald and Review All Star Game.    Hixnbaugh’s college choice was Washington University in St Louis. He was a member of the Bears basketball team for three season. During his senior year, he chose to begin pursuit of his chosen career, coaching at the high school level. During that year he became the assistant basketball coach at Duschense High School in St Charles. Missouri. Following graduations from Washington University he continued gaining experience as a coach, assisting at Duchesne, Chenoa (IL)and Christian Brothers College High School in St Louis. In 2001 Hixenbaugh accepted the head coaching position at Trinity Preparatory School in Winter Park, Florida. In three years at Trinity Prep he won 57 games against 28 losses and gave the school their first district championship in the history. In 2004 he moved across town to Winter Park High School where in 2007 his Wildcats finished second in the state’s large school state tournament and HIxenbaugh garnered “Florida Coach of the Year” honors. The following year he moved back to St Louis and became head coach of the Mary Institute Country Day School basketball program. During his six years at MICDS, his teams have won 87 games against 61 losses and have captured four conference championships and one district championship. His overall eleven year record as a high school coach is 189 and 105.
