R V (Dick) Evans

R.V. “Dick” Evans began his involvement with the students of Taylorville as a science teacher at Taylorville Junior High School. After leaving the education field to enter private business, Evans began keeping score for varsity and junior varsity boys home basketball games in 1960. From that year until the present, “Dick” Evans has been a fixture at the Taylorville scorer’s table, not only for boys’ games, but as the girls’ program began in 1979, he chose to “double his pleasure” and become the official scorer for their games too. For the past forty–two years, with some exceptions, “Dick” Evans has scored over 10,000 points for the Tornadoes as well as their opponents. His conscientiousness and reliability has maintained a standard of what being a “Friend of Sport” is all about.
