Boyd Dappert

Boyd Dappert was a civil engineer by profession, but his real love was the youth of Taylorville and especially their involvement in athletics.  As a young man, Mr. Dappert organized a variety of youth teams that allowed many of Taylorville's future stars the opportunity to get their first start on an organized team. Two of those independent teams, the "Demons" and the "Scouts" traveled throughout the state and, in some cases, the Midwest, to play against the best opponents Mr. Dappert could find.

Boys in town always new that if they wanted to play basketball, all they had to do was call Mr. Dappert and he would find a gymnasium for them to play in. He was dedicated to the kids and ensured that they would learn the game in a way that would bring pride to themselves and their team,

Boyd Dappert was also a member of the Taylorville Board of Education during the early 1940's. He was actively involved in the Presbyterian Church and was an organizer of the Order of DeMolay.

During most basketball games played at Taylorville High School during the 1940's, one could usually find Boyd Dappert behind the scorers table either keeping time or serving as official scorer. He died in 1962 and was honored in 1965 by an All Time Stars Benefit Basketball Game, that brought forty six players together who had been influenced by Mr. Dappert and had starred for the Tornadoes over three decades.
