Gordon Brown

Gordon Brown graduated from Taylorville High School in 1940 and was a three year letter winner in basketball, track and football. In his three year career on the basketball team, Brown scored 548 points, 277 his senior year. During that senior year, Brown was selected team captain and helped guide the 20-10 Tornadoes to their first ever "Sweet Sixteen" state tournament appearance.    On the gridiron, Brown helped the Tornadoes to an 8-0-2 season, one of the best in school history. Following graduation, Brown received a full scholarship to play basketball at Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana. While at Centenary, Brown not only lettered in basketball, but also earned a letter playing on the football team. Following his junior year at Centenary, Brown joined the U.S. Marine Corp. After returning from the Pacific following the end of World War II, Brown played basketball for the local VFW team, which won the Illinois State Tournament and advanced to the VFW National Tournament.
