Matt Blomquist

1999 graduate of Taylorville High School was three year letter winner for the Tornadoes football team. As a wide receiver, Blomquist smashed the receiving records during both his junior and senior years.     During the 1997 season, he helped lead the Tornadoes to an 8 – 2 season. With Ryan Prehn at quarterback, the Tornadoes developed a one of the most potent passing attacks in the Central State 8 Conference. Blomquist quickly became the primary receiver and as the season progressed, it became apparent to Taylorville opponents that he was a weapon to be respected. At year’s end, Blomquist set the single season record for receptions with 45 catches, while gaining 842 yards and scoring 11 touchdowns.    During his senior season in 1998, he raised the bar for all future receivers by demolishing his previous records, recording 70 receptions for a remarkable 1401 single season receiving yards, 518 yards more than the previous high. His career totals also established school records with 115 receptions for 2242 yards, and 26 touchdowns (tied for 3rd all time).    As a result of his stellar accomplishments, Blomquist was selected to the Central State Eight All Conference First Team in both 1997 and 1998. The Champaign News Gazette chose him a member of the All State Special Mention 100 and the Chicago Tribune selected Blomquist to their second team All- State squad. Following graduation, Blomquist attended the University of Missouri and played for the Missouri Tiger football team.
