Bruce Barry graduated from Taylorville High School in 1976, and is being inducted into the Hall of Fame as a ”Friend of Sports”.
Bruce Barry had a very successful athletic career at Taylorville High School. A quarterback on the football team, he lead the 1975 Tornadoes to a 6-2-1 record and was a starting guard on the 19-9 Regional Champion basketball team. He also was a distance runner on a very competitive track team. After graduating from Taylorville High School in 1976 Bruce Barry attend the University of Illinois where he received a degree in business. He returned to Taylorville and entered business with his brother at Larry’s Service Center.
In 2010, Barry created a group called the Quarterback Club who’s purpose was and still is to raise funds for youth sports programs. Benefactors of this Club include Taylorville Youth Sports, The Bowling Foundation, Taylorville Youth Football League, Junior Football League, Varsity Football, Varsity Basketball, Varsity Baseball, Varsity Softball, Wrestling, Volleyball, Junior High Baseball and Junior High softball among others.
Barry also volunteered his time and leadership from 2011 to 2015 to help guide the Tornado Open Golf Outing to some of its most successful fund raisers and was instrumental in assisting in raising funds for the the High School artificial athletic field.
Maintaining the tradition of the Barry family, Bruce has not only helps raise funds, but also donates his time and resources to many project through our community.
Barry was elected Mayor of Taylorville in 2017 has become a familiar voice, adding his commentary on the local radio broadcasts of Taylorville High School football and basketball games.
