Motivation

The purpose of this research is to acquire real-time data of temperature and air-quality to help combine data with other sensors and be able to produce a much more accurate and effective way to display the conditions of the heat islands in Trenton.

  • Heat islands - urban areas that have the tendency to have higher temperatures than outlying areas (areas with foliage).

  • Most cities that contain a lot of roads and buildings have heat island effect due to the massive amount of infrastructure and less natural terrain, such as forests and rivers.

  • The heat island effect has the possibility to risk our personal health (humans) due to the rising temperatures in these urban areas that can exacerbate the effects of climate change as a whole!

  • High temperatures are also often associated with poor air quality, further exacerbating respiratory problems.
