Collaborating Across Boundaries (CAB) is a National Science Foundation (NSF) supported pedagogical project that seeks to foster deeper engagement with STEM learning through collaborations between TCNJ classes (STEM & Non-STEM) and a community partner.

Dr. Marla L. Jaksch's WGS 350: Gender Equity in Education class and Dr. Matthew Cathell's ETE 341: Environmental and Biotechnology Systems class joined together on a project based collaboration with 20 high school students at the General Raj School in Delhi, India.

The collaborators met every Wednesday (8/9 AM EST; 6:30 PM IST) via MS Teams to discuss design thinking, design justice, as well as play games, share their talents, and get to know one another. After a few weeks of learning new tools and working in small groups, the collaborators selected a design brief to adapt, given various constraints, which included: cultural relevance; aspects of accessibility; equity; audience; and skills and interests of the group members.

The results of this effort includes 5 group projects that center equity, diversity, and inclusion in their development of board games, children's books, an architectural redesign, and a biomimicry inspired design. The projects will be prototyped and piloted with an after-school STEM program in India which seeks to make available affordable, culturally relevant, critical, and child-centered materials designed by young people, for young people.
