This is a test newsletter.
MAY NEWSLETTER
Some important updates are coming up fast. The full details are below, but please remember:
May 13-17: MAP Testing
May 15: Final day to reserve Taiwan trip
I created a test newsletter layout to explore options as we plan for next year.
It is available here, and I would love to hear your feedback. At TCIS, we want to have strong relationships with our families. Several research articles demonstrate the success of better communication and cooperation between schools and parents. A 2021 study from Columbia found significantly improved grades, improvements in submitting homework, and decreased absences. Another study from Harvard found improvements in student attitude, participation, and focus at school.
When parents and schools work together, greater success happens!
MAY 13-24: NWEA MAP Spring Testing
MAY 13-17: Chinese Speaking Competition
MAY 22: Visakha Bucha Day (School Closed)
MAY 27-7: WIDA Testing
MAY 29: MS Speech Competition

Our final call for Taiwan educational trips during the summer is quickly approaching. If you are considering attending, please follow the instructions in the document to reserve your spot. The AI summer program is ideal for students staying in Bangkok, while the Taiwan trips would be great for those who would like to travel during the summer.
May 7-10: Grade 4 visited the middle school to observe grade 5 English, math, and science classes. This helped grade 4 prepare for their transition to middle school next year. In addition to learning more about the subjects, students practiced managing their time, organizing their belongings, and traveling to classes independently. Our grade 5 students learned about being role models for the new middle school students and how to be mentors. The learning ended with team-building activities and a Friday pizza party in Gym 5.
You can view some of the photos by clicking the link below, but look out on our Facebook page for an upcoming video highlighting all the activities.
It is wonderful how, with each newsletter brings new friends to introduce. Our middle school continues to grow. When we receive a new student, they are paired with a current student as a buddy. The buddy has an important role in helping the student learn and feel comfortable. I am so grateful that many students have volunteered for this job.
Robotics classes during April 2024 culminated with a project that took all of their skills. Robotics and coding education not only prepares students for future careers but also equips them with essential skills, mindset, and knowledge for success in a technology-driven world.
TCIS students joined a competition known as Battle of the Bands. The competition featured bands from 15 different schools in Bangkok. There was a lot of competition from very talented musicians who applied what they learned in music class to perform their personal songs. TCIS shined their talent and took home 4th place! Congratulations to all students who participated—especially Mhai Mhai, the only middle school student who attended!

Our facilities team continues to keep TCIS a clean and safe learning environment. Regular mosquito cleaning, water filter inspections, and air conditioner maintenance are also performed. There are more great improvements to safety to come during the summer to ensure our students have the best care possible.

Our daily timetable and schedule for middle school.
Parents/visitors who wish to visit campus are asked to schedule an appointment through the registrar or with Ms. Ooy. They will follow up on your request. You may also use the online booking form. The appointments must be confirmed via email before parents enter the campus. Please book an appointment with Ms. Ooy to meet with the Head of Middle School at least 24 hours before. Meeting hours are 11:00 am - 4:00 pm.
To maintain student and teacher safety, the campus is closed to food deliveries (for everyone). Plan to bring everything with you in the morning. No food deliveries are allowed to TCIS at any time during the school day. If a student forgot his/her lunch, do not worry; we will make sure to take care of them on that day. However, please ensure your child has money on his/her card to use in the canteen.
Send an email to: registrar@tcis.ac.th or call the Registrar’s attendance line at: 751-1201. Notify the registrar as soon as possible of your child’s absence or tardiness from school. A parent or guardian must email the Registrar within one day following the absence.
Tardies
Late students must check in with the Registrar to receive an “Admit to Class” slip. The registrar is located in the main lobby of the middle school.

TCIS believes technology is a powerful and integral part of teaching and learning. While there are many good computers on the market, please understand that PC/Windows-based computers are not supported.
TCIS Secondary School is a MacBook/iPad one-to-one school
MacBooks or IPads are required for all grades 7 through 12 students
TCIS Chromebook Rental for Grades 5-6
School-owned Chromebooks are rented daily for grades 5 & 6 students if needed.
Grade 5-6 students can opt out of the school-owned Chromebooks if they have their own MacBook or iPad.
Students in Grades 5-6 must use Apple iPad or Macbook if they are using a personal device
Students will be using Google Classroom and various websites for school work. We do recommend a laptop but an Apple iPad is fine to use. iPads have some limitations.
TCIS Approved Devices - 2023-2024 School Year
Grade 5-6 - Chromebooks (school-owned) or MacBooks / iPads (student-owned)
Grade 7-12 MacBooks or iPads (student-owned)

At TCIS, we understand that children and parents wish to celebrate birthdays with classmates. It is a big day! While we do allow children to bring in cupcakes to share with classmates, we do have procedures in place that need to be followed.
Please note, that no soda, full birthday cakes, or candles are allowed, as it takes too much time for us to cut and distribute cake to students and to clean up. Of course, candles are dangerous and present a serious fire risk.
These steps need to be followed:
The cupcakes must come to school with the student when he/she arrives at school. Deliveries are not allowed under any circumstances.
Cupcakes will be given to Ms. Ooy or Mr. Richard in the morning and kept in their office.
Do not provide any knives to your child to cut the cupcakes.
Cupcakes will be distributed only at lunchtime by the student
No loss of class instructional time will be allowed due to the celebration
Our Schoolwide Learning Outcomes are part of everything we do at TCIS
