What is Google Arts and culture?

The Google Arts and Culture project was launched in 2011 in partnership with 17 of the world's museums. The collaboration has since grown to include over 2,000 leading museums and cultural institutions around the world. You can search by many categories:

Artists ● Mediums ● Art movements ● Historical events ● Historical figures ● Places

What is the purpose of Google Arts and Culture?

Google Arts & Culture is a non-profit initiative.

Google works with cultural institutions and artists around the world. Together, their mission is to preserve and bring the world's art and culture online so it's accessible to anyone, anywhere.

Bottom line: Their goal is to provide digital access to view and explore art in both physical and contextual ways.

Learning with Google Arts and Culture

Teachers can have their students explore the arts, science, history, and technology. GA&C provides many resources for the disciplines to intersect with each other. Google states, "the potential for adventure is endless". A teacher can transport their students to the world’s great museums, or tour stunning historical sites. An internet connection is all you need.

There are two ways to tap into the possibilities: visit the Google Arts & Culture website, or download the app on Android or iOS.

When it comes to using Google Arts & Culture with your students, you have the following options.

  1. Send links: Links direct students to content you’ve preselected, and can be shared any way you wish.

  2. Encourage students to explore: Older or adult students may wish to explore the site and find relevant activities on their own, then share them with you or the class.

  3. Assign and view content on Google Classroom. Google Arts & Culture integrates seamlessly with Google Classroom. You can assign and share content with your students, then have them share completed work with you, all from a familiar platform.

Teacher's Guide

This 52-page guide provides a roadmap to the extensive content in Arts and Culture. It suggests that you will be able to integrate Google Arts and Culture into the curriculum. The goal of the guide is to give students the following:

  • Deeper context

  • Engaging, hands-on learning opportunities.

You can find a wide variety of student activities linked on page forty of the guide. The guide outlines several ways to get started, such as:

  • Downloadable lessons. These offer a self-guided learning structure for the content available.

  • Applied digital skills. This provides free, video-based lessons that guide students step by step. The goal is to complete a digital project using Google Arts & Culture content.

  • Customizable activities. These activities support students with critical thinking and digital literacy skills. They use these skills as they explore the content and features available.

  • The Guardian Guide. Assists families and guardians in getting familiar with the site and app.

If this is my ending activity , final grade, or exit ticket? Where do I get resources for the unit?

I used Google Arts and Culture to explore:
