It's About Being Together!

"The greatest lesson I learned @TCEA: education will always be a social endeavor, and we need each other to be successful." Eric N. Rodriguez

"If #TCEA22 had a sound this would be it! Pure joy, laughter, connections, and friends!" Brooke Lowery

"I didn't know how much I needed this until it was all over. WOW! Never ending fun, networking, collaborating and celebrating throughout the entire conference. I know I'm there to share #ARVRinEDU but it's the PEOPLE that make this conference amazing." Jaime Donally

It's About Teaching and Learning!

Buncee Template - Use this goal-setting game board template with students or educators. Fill in each of the game spaces with a step/task you need to accomplish on your way to the goal.

Sketchnote - Here's a beautiful sketchnote by Ryan McLaughlin with his thoughts on closing the learning gap.

Miguel Guhlin shared this tasty tidbit: "Did you know that you can train your 'attention filter' (a.k.a. RAS) to prioritize information you focus on? Extend the boost to learning with self-regulating activities that enhance metacognition. Teach lessons while introducing distractions. Ask students to track what kept their attention or interrupted it, then discuss how to stay focused. Learn more about the CPM Process." To the right is a sketchnote of what TCEA board member Lydia Croupe took away from this session on student engagement.

Diana Benner had this research-based teaching technique to offer: "The word association strategy is an ideal way to help students activate prior knowledge that they might have about a topic. The steps are:

  • Tell students the name of the topic or lesson.

  • Have students take turns adding as many words related to the topic using a word cloud tool like Mentimeter or others found in these blogs. Encourage students to write at least three words.

  • After 3-5 minutes, discuss their answers. Asking students to share the first three words they associate with a topic can reveal a lot about what information or misconceptions they are bringing into the learning environment."

Dr. Bruce Ellis shared a Take 5 activity where participants chose one of three websites to discover a new way they could have students demonstrate understanding. The three websites he used were:
