Closet Plants
"Receiving a plant has been my favorite gift to give or receive. The safe option is a 'closet plant' although I've literally put mine in the closet bc I seem to be killing it otherwise."
Here's a list I've found too that are 'closet plants' due to their ability to grow/stay alive in dark corners of your home.
- Aglaonema: Some selections include Maria, Silver King and Silver queen that grow to about a foot tall. The dark green leaves are often marked with silver streaks and blotches.
- Bamboo palm: A cluster forming palm with bamboo-like stems growing to 6 feet tall.
It's one of the best tall growing plants for dark locations. Another good selection is the neanthebella palm growing to 3 feet tall.
- Cast iron plant: As the name suggests it's one of the better selections for the home. The leaves are large and dark green often growing 2 feet long. A selection with yellow markings is also available.
- Hawaiian schefflera : A bushy plant with large multi-segmented leaves growing to 5 feet tall. Some selections have marbled foliage
- Pothos: A vine often used in hanging baskets. The bright green leaves with yellow blotches add color to low light areas.
- Sansevieria: A very upright plant with clusters of lance-like leaves growing to 2 feet tall. It's sometimes called the snake plant due to irregular dark and light green bands that crisscross the leaves.
- Spathiphyllum: Grows deep green lance-like leaves to 2 feet long. When growing under higher light levels it produces large white blossoms.
