Tips when considering ar apps

When looking at an app in the app store, consider these tips to help you and your students have a better experience.

  1. Identify most recent update date for the app. If it hasn't been updated in more than a year, it may no longer be supported.

  2. Look at the most recent reviews. An app can be great but the most recent updates may have caused it to crash. See what others are currently saying to see if it is worth your time/energy to try/use.

  3. Pay attention to the app privacy details. The iOS App Store should specify if the developer has indicated their privacy practices. The Android Play Store will give you a link to the developer's privacy policy; you may need to scroll and look for a section labeled Personal Data, Collected Information, Usage of Collected Information, or something similar.

  4. Look to identify how many downloads the app has to date. The more downloads, the more confidence you can have in the rating/comments (not necessarily the app).

  5. If you are using the free version that includes ads, test out the app to explore what ads might be presented to verify if they are appropriate for your students.
