DELF
The DELF (Diplôme d'Études en Langue Française) is an official diploma awarded by the French Ministry of Education to certify the French language competency of candidates outside of France. Each exam is different from one another and candidates can register for the exam of their choosing. Each exam evaluates four communication skills: reading, listening, writing, and speaking.
DELF certification is valuable because it is a globally recognized, lifelong certification of your French proficiency. This certification enhances career and academic opportunities, provides official proof of skills and makes students more competitive in a globalized world.
Newman facilitates students who are interested in writing the DELF exam. Every spring, we have students in all 3 French programs (Core, Extended and Immersion) who write this exam and succeed!
Advanced Placement
Students in our Grade 12 French Immersion Program are encouraged to write the AP French Language and Culture Exam, where they can test all of the skills that they have learned throughout their time in the Immersion Program, becoming fluent French speakers and writers.
There are many benefits to writing the AP French Language and Culture Exam and these include, but are not limited to:
If you are writing in Grade 11 and score a 4 or 5, it gives you an edge in post-secondary applications.
You get a head start on university-level work.
Nearly all U.S and Canadian post-secondary institutions accept AP scores for placement or credit, as do many international universities. You can search the AP credit policy of various colleges at the AP college database and/or students are encouraged to speak with their guidance counsellor.
