William M. Abbott

Research Fellow in Engineering at Trinity College Dublin

Hello! My name is William Abbott, and I am currently a research fellow in the School of Engineering at Trinity College Dublin, working with Dr. Rocco Lupoi. My current work is on developing novel methods for additive manufacturing.

I completed my PhD in the School of Physics, CRANN, and AMBER at Trinity College Dublin, under the supervision of Prof. John F. Donegan and Prof. David McCloskey. My thesis was based on improving the thermal stability of Au nanomaterials, so that they may be implemented into industrial applications such as heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR).

Outside of research, I have a strong passion for music: I have done work on the intersection of science and music, and I write and record pieces occasionally.

Additionally, I enjoy writing, and have been published in several student publications in TCD.
