Let's Talk About Mathematics

Dr. Rochy Flint talks to us about alleviating math anxiety and the disengagement learners often have when encourntering a math problem.

Why Sidewalk Math?

In her 2012 book, Cultivating Mathematics Identities In and Out of School and In Between, Dr. Erica Walker discusses how

"It is important to consider how people’s mathematics identities might be cultivated in spaces within schools, outside of schools, and in spaces in-between, and how these experiences might contribute to the development of a mathematical identity as well as the development and dissemination of mathematical knowledge"

Sidewalk Math is a unique resource for teachers, students, parents, and communities to bring mathematics to each of these spaces:

IN the classroom with intentional Sidewalk Math lesson plans

OUTSIDE of schools, when students engage with Sidewalk Math at their own front steps, and

IN-BETWEEN when you and I share Sidewalk Math with our communities in parks and public sidewalks.

Don't have access to a sidewalk?

Try Chalkboard Contact Paper!

You can also use whiteboards. Even poster paper and markers will work.
