Creative Writing and Publishing
Encourage your students to explore their creativity in writing and learn the ins and outs of publishing with Izamaris's formidable guidance. She provides comprehensive insights into nurturing creative expression and navigating the world of publishing. Her approach not only fosters a love for language and literature but also equips students with valuable knowledge and skills for their future endeavors in writing and beyond.
The CITL is always open to collaborate with teachers whose visionary initiatives offer students an outlet to expand their horizons and apply their learning. This year Izamaris introduced our students to a variety of creative writing workshops, poetry sessions, editorial projects, and more.
Accompanied by her special guest—Prof. Patricia Schaefer Röder, creator of the poetic form siglema 575, Izamaris led a poetry seminar on April 25th for our highschoolers. Patricia's experience as an editor, translator, and experimental poet made her an invaluable fountain of knowledge for our students, and they took full advantage of this by experimenting with this creative minimalist poetic form. Similarly, they asked their guest compelling questions throughout her visit and learned valuable insights about the world of writing, editing, translating, and publishing.
While completing the workshop, those who were 16 years old and older were informed of the 11mo Certamen Internacional de Siglema 575, a competition of poetry whose winners would have their poems entered into a collection of siglemas, "Di lo que quieres decir" (2025).
This opportunity to write and potentially publish their creative pieces in an official anthology is a first for TASIS Dorado students. We congratulate all those who've entered poems into the competition, and we wish them the very best!

On May 8th-9th, Izamaris's Regular Spanish and Honors Spanish classes joined us in the CITL Library to share the culmination of 5 months of literary work, which they began in January in light of their participation in the 30mo Certamen Literario de la Universidad Politécnica de Puerto Rico. After establishing their editorial teams, they worked together to create presentations of their final products, titled after their own conceptions: Popurrí Literario, Lo que vio Tutankhamun, Carpe Diem, Tempus Fugit y Raddiical. While presenting their publications, students read fragments of selected works, explained their editing and revision processes, and reflected on their experience in developing a completed manuscript, from their first draft to the final version. One group even incorporated a musical component, adding their personal interest to this educational project.
This initiative gave our 9th graders the space to be creative, learn revision strategies, and practice their public speaking skills in a way that reinforced their personal and academic growth.
Interested in helping students reimagine writing and publishing but don't know where to start? We can connect you with Izamaris to further ignite a love of learning in your students.
