The Faculty of Computing and Information Technology (FOCS) successfully organised the community service programme on 15 May 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM, at the computer rooms of SJK(C) Nan Yik Lee Rubber. The programme, themed “Google NotebookLM for Educators,” attracted approximately 70 teachers of SJK (C) Nan Yik Lee Rubber, providing them with valuable exposure to the latest AI-powered educational technology tools.
The programme was led and coordinated by Mr. Ooi Chun Pew, Deputy Dean of FOCS, as part of the faculty’s continuous commitment towards community engagement and digital education empowerment. The session aimed to equip educators with practical knowledge and hands-on experience in utilising Google NotebookLM to enhance teaching preparation, content management, and productivity in the classroom.
The workshop was conducted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Goh Ching Pang and Ts. Mohd. Ridzuan Bin Ahmad, who introduced participants to the fundamentals of NotebookLM and demonstrated its capabilities in supporting educational tasks. Participants were guided through understanding NotebookLM, exploring its key features and learning effective techniques for optimising usage through settings configuration and prompting strategies.
In addition to the theoretical sharing, the programme also featured practical hands-on activities where teachers explored ways to improve productivity using NotebookLM together with various extensions and external tools. The interactive nature of the workshop encouraged active participation and allowed educators to experience how artificial intelligence can support modern teaching and learning processes.
The success of the programme was further strengthened by the support of the assistant instructors, namely Mr. Peh Guan Soon, Ms. Loo Bee Wah, Ms. Pong Suk Fun and Ms. Vasantha A/P Sowndappan, who provided guidance and assistance throughout the workshop sessions.
The organising team also acknowledged the valuable contributions of the supporting staff, Ms. Norizan Binti Muhamed and Ms. Siti Hajar Binti Mohd Nor, whose dedication ensured the smooth coordination and successful implementation of the programme.
Overall, the programme successfully fostered a collaborative and engaging learning environment while empowering educators with practical AI knowledge and digital competencies. Through initiatives such as this, FOCS continues to play an active role in supporting the educational community and promoting technology-enhanced teaching practices for the future.
