Unit 1The Birchbark House
We will read The Birchbark House by Louise Erdrich and a series of related informational texts and sources to explore the question: Why is it important to learn the stories of the past? We will express our understanding through a literary analysis that explains the impact of Europeans on Native American communities.
By the end of this unit, students will have read literary and informational texts to analyze the effects of the Europeans on the Native American way of life.
The Culminating Writing Task:
How do the lessons that Omakayas learns in each season reveal the theme of the novel? In a written response, explain the lessons Omakayas learns throughout the seasons. Then, explain how the seasonal structure of the text develops an overall theme in the novel.

Parents, teachers are prohibited from posting an entire collection of copyrighted work. Still, I will make the audiobook assessible to only students I teach.
Students will need to be logged into their school accounts to access individual files.
