The Dog Aging Project team receives hundreds of samples from our participating dogs every week. The Logistics Assistant will assist with sample processing and inventory, shipping to downstream labs, data entry of metadata forms, and clinic appointment reminders.
We provide extensive training and support to our staff. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, have good critical thinking skills, and enjoy organizational tasks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assists with the processing, aliquoting, and shipping of a variety of biological samples from canine study participants.
Respond to emails or phone calls from participants or clinics related to sample collection or shipping.
Assists with data entry and documentation of received, processed, and shipped samples.
Exercises sound reasoning and critical thinking skills to analyze issues, make decisions, and overcome obstacles.
Attends required training sessions and meetings relevant to the position.
Supports effective two-way communications with program participants, staff, and veterinarians.
Additional Responsibilities
This position does not offer remote work.
Use of a personal computer or DAP lab laptop is required to complete duties.
Must be able to work in the office/lab Monday through Friday afternoons (between 1 and 6 pm). Summer availability is required. Holiday availability is preferred. Located in the old vet school (VMS).
Be able to work between 10 and 20 hours per week, with at least 2 hours minimum per shift.
Other duties may be available depending on schedule and interest.

Education – High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience – One year of related experience. Laboratory skills or a desire to learn are strongly preferred.
Knowledge - Word processing and spreadsheets. Preferred experience with veterinary technology, biomedical science, scientific research, or a related field.
Ability – Multitask and work cooperatively with others. Interest in learning new computer software. Ability to work non-traditional hours to accommodate workload during peak times, and work a minimum of ten hours per week in at least two-hour blocks per shift.
Physical Requirements – Ability to work standing in a laboratory setting with appropriate PPE. Reasonable accommodations will be provided as needed.
