Dr. Alge has been a professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Texas A&M University (TAMU) since August 2014. He also has a courtesy appointment in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at TAMU.
Prior to joining the TAMU faculty, Dr. Alge did his postdoctoral training at the University of Colorado Boulder in the lab of Dr. Kristi Anseth from 2010-2014, where he researched poly(ethylene glycol) hydrogels for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. He earned his Ph.D. from Purdue University in Biomedical Engineering in 2010 and studied under Dr. Tien-Min Gabriel Chu. His doctoral research was on the development of a polymer-reinforced calcium phosphate cement scaffold for cranial bone tissue engineering. Dr. Alge graduated with a B.S. in Biosystems Engineering from Clemson University in 2006.
Dr. Alge grew up in Summerville, SC and was inspired to become a biomedical engineer in high school when his mom needed a total knee replacement. He became a professor because of his love of learning, passion for research, and strong desire to be a teacher and mentor.
Dr. Alge's wife is named Amy. She is a library instructional assistant at a local elementary school. She is also an artist, and he proudly displays some of her work in his office. They have two daughters named Caitlin (13) and Evelynn (10).
